Greg, To my knowledge (please do correct me if I'm wrong) the NSDAP were not particularly fond of the Weimar republic, and they used the failures of that government to make themselves look good. I don't see why any NSDAP member (a Reichswehr, or Wehrmacht officer, yes, I can imagine that) wearing any Weimar awards, no? Do you know whether or not he did, in fact wear it? Regards, Philip.S

Andreas, Interesting idea, but no, just family. There are 2 other military men, only one is with his medals on this image (a 1870-71, and kaiser commemorative medal, attached) I'm afraid I have minimal information on them. Many thanks Philip.S saxcob, many thanks for your information as well! To my knowledge, the ribbons on both the Alsen, and D?ppel crosses are wrong, no? Somewhere, I have another image of the same gentleman, but with only 5 medals, although that image was taken in 1905, or just a bit later, but in significantly worse quality, which also features a gentleman who is also on the above photo (without medals), but this time with a hefty bar! perhaps just too lazy to wear it for the photo then! Regards, Philip.S

dedehansen, Many thanks, I had thought that he was a combatant in the Franco-Prussian war as well, but you prove my theory wrong! thank you for the information, It is greatly appreciated, Would it be possible to figure out which branch he was in? As he is in civilian dress, I have no idea! Thank you ! Philip.S

Gentlemen, Attached is a snippet of an image (taken sometime before 1905) , featuring a gentleman wearing a 6 place medal bar. This gentleman was born in Prussia, in 1840, if that is of any help. I have tried my best to decipher his bar, and I believe I have figured out many of them, but I would appreciate some help, as some I am clueless on some! What I think it might be: 1~D?ppel cross? 2~Alsen cross? 3~1870-71 medal? 4~K?niggr?tz cross 5~Totally clueless on this one, though it could be the 1870-71 medal, but then 3 would be missing! 6~Kaiser centenary medal That's all I can come up with. And a close-up of the bar: Thank you, Philip.S

MODEL CARS & TRUCKS
Philip.S replied to Mervyn Mitton's topic in Non Military Collectibles & Antiques
I usually prefer to buy newer models, as they have more detail, and that's usually what I'm after, but I seem to have quite a few of these older ones lurking about! Some Matchbox Superfast "cars" (I put it in ".." as I don't know if one can classify a "Tractor Shovel" as a car) and some older "Siku" models, of slightly better quality. Philip.S -
Hungary Hungarian Post War Parachute Badges
Philip.S replied to Gordon Craig's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Gentlemen, Here, as mentioned above, the relevant colour (and not) plates from "Parachute Badges & Insignia of the World" : Philip.S -
Greg, Congratulations, three very nice medals! The cases are beautiful on the first two, anything on top?(some emblems etc?), The third type reminds me of the old top trump boxes! 🫠 😆 Philip.S

Hungary Hungarian Kivalo Dolgozol Badges
Philip.S replied to hunyadi's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Gordon Craig, No worries! yes, I'm not sure if it is the same for everyone, but for me almost all his pics have disappeared, which is a shame judging from everyone's reactions to them! Thank you! Philip.S -
Hungary Hungarian Kivalo Dolgozol Badges
Philip.S replied to hunyadi's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Sorry for posting on this thread once again, but I couldn't resist the temptation... I was browsing the Hungarian site "Vatera", even though they don't ship to the UK, but oh well 😢 and I saw this: I've only ever seen these in silver, now this is a gold, does that imply the existence of a bronze somewhere? here is the link: https://www.vatera.hu/rakosi-kivalo-muszaki-dolgozo-baberkoszorus-arany-fokozat-minijevel-dobozaban-3316453691.html Philip.S -
Hungary Hungarian Security
Philip.S replied to Greg Collins's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Gordon Craig, Very nice badge to you as well! I notice a metal latch on your case....mine doesn't have that, was that addition just an early case design, or was it for officers etc? Thank you, Philip.S A little , perhaps, but i cant help but notice the 2 words "reference books", may I inquire as to the names of these? I can't find any myself! Again, Thank you Philip.S -

Hello, In a hopefully not in vain attempt to resurrect this wonderful thread 😆, here is a Kivalo Karhatalmi Szolgalatert badge in a case I picked up a few months ago. Unlike the very first post in this thread, this one has not just the badge "holder", but also the miniature "holder", and is in better condition, so I presume it is of later manufacture Philip.S -
Same here! 😆 Thanks for the inspiration Greg, without you, my DDR collection would of dwindled at a few coins! Philip.S
-
Wow, wish i could build up a collection so well and so quickly! Good luck, Philip.S
-
Uwe, Thank you for clarifying, did the DDR ever use the wooden with faux leather cases, as many countries did, alongside the plastic for medals apart from the orders (Banner of Labour etc.), or were they never used for simpler long service awards? Thank you Philip.S
-
Wonderful, I see a lot of these plastic cases with a clear top from eastern block countries, are they original/official, or just replacement?

Hello, Anyone who is familiar-ish with the Brockhaus lexicon series will be familiar with the plates in colour and not (especially the orders and medals pages !), but sadly I found this rather annoying piece of pink paper in the Brockhaus from 1932. it reads along the lines of : Because of the currently active changes of many uniforms, the plates "uniforms 1-8" have been excluded from this book, you will receive the new plates immediately if you throw this postcard into the Postbox without a stamp, after you have precisely signed the front side. I am hoping that perhaps someone might be able to scan these pages that are missing, and post them here? Many thanks, Philip.S

Unknown medal, maybe cap badge, please help!
Philip.S replied to Philip.S's topic in Rest of the World: Militaria & History
Good morning, It has come to my attention that I haven't got the knack of posting pictures on this site yet. I hope that fixes them. Thank you, Philip.S I have also found out what it is, it has taken me an annoyingly long time to find this, but it is in fact a Syrian "Order of the Wounded" awarded to Military ad civilian personnel injured whilst acting for the state. Thank you to "Medals of the World" for my information on this. I am sorry for not posting this in the middle eastern forum, but i did not know at the time. https://www.medals.org.uk/syria/syria012.htm Thank you, Philip.S -
Hello, as I was browsing through some British cap badges in an antique shop, I found this. I asked the owner what it was, and she didn't know, I did some research myself, to no avail, so I will post it here. I don't know which country it was made by, so by putting it here, I hope it wont annoy anyone! It is one piece construction, and has no makers mark on the side, or reverse. Thank you for taking the time to read this, Philip.S Unknown award front.jfif Unknown award back.jfif I forgot to mention, the tip of the sword blade has a scuff, as if it had been broken off of something, probably connecting it to a ribbon. again, Thank you, Philip.S

Thank you for this Info, it is greatly appreciated. Sadly there are no medals or badges on the tunic, however there is a pin hole (single hole) in its right side, and on the inside, the impression left on the fabric is of a circle with the pin hole at its centre. This resembles the submariners' badge, but could be an excellent soldier badge or similar. It's also worth noting, that although you can't see it on the picture clearly, the stars on his shoulder boards are different colours, I can't find anything similar to this anywhere else (top one is silver coloured, bottom two are brass coloured).

Italian Victory Medals
Philip.S replied to Kev in Deva's topic in Inter-Allied Victory Medals of the Great War
This is my small contribution to the thread. The Italian Victory Medal has got to be one of the best looking as well. Philip.S -
Hello, I have bought this uniform for £25, the seller told me it was a submarine lieutenant's uniform, is this correct? There is also a tailor mark, if someone could translate it, I would be grateful.

I agree, these are spectacular and I hope to see more. Philip.S
