    1. Thanks guys, so based on your comments it was not a specific female only award. Regards
    2. It may well be an option, I'll try to see if I get a response, remember the one I posted was assumed to such a copy, it's about determining the scale of authenticity such copies have in relation to the original struck pieces regards
    3. Hi Mervyn, thanks for the compliments, I've said this before, but to me it is a pastime but with a passion to ensure total accuracy. We all look at old B/W images and have a quick glance without actually looking at the real contents of the image. With a sympathetic colourised image, it should hopefully "draw" your eyes into, and spend a bit more time examining it. As an example one I posted earlier was of Fleiger Paul Heim, I attach a closer image, the medals bar took ages to get right, I have to because I know from experience that posting something like this other members will say, "Great" but you got this or that wrong, I have to tread carefully with all the experts on the forum, hope I got this right regards Alex
    4. Hi all had this in my collection for quite a while. I've always assumed it's a Sanitatsverdeinstkreuz from Bayern. The cross is silver/silvered metal, the suspension device and ring are gold, each arms are individually lined on the outer edges with gold, possibly difficult to see on the images these are soldered on individually, the suspension ring itself is marked "AH" A few questions if I may The ring is quite clearly stamped "AH" which I assume the be the manufacturer, any ideas? The cross came without ribbon but I assume it was a light blue from research, the only other I've seen was on a ladies bow, was this a female only award? As can be seen, the reverse has unfortunately lost some of its enamel and central cypher, (Seems to have been pulled off and not just fell off). As I know a jeweller who restores enamel etc is it worth having the damage restored? Any value? I like it because it's quite a nice little dinky thing in hand, it actually looks far better than the images can show sorry to be a pain regards Alex K
    5. I agree that a comparison with a known original award piece would be helpful, but I've yet to see a close-up of an original, (Anyone got one?). To me the main differences are that the actual suspension ring is larger than originals and the ends are not soldered together (Not visible on the example), this has been a trait for other star copies particularly the ACE, secondly and you may need to have it in hand, the Arctic has a slightly "Yellower" hue which may indicate a different metal content. but as you say, 60 odd years between their respective manufacture could explain some differences. The question for me is I have the complete set of WWii stars medals etc, do I add this to that collection, as it is now part of that series? regards edit, attached a large picture of an awarded example being worn, seems to show the more rounded top part for the suspension loop, is the cypher softer difficult to judge, the suspension ring is the same as the others
    6. Just for interest, there appears to be a dearth of "Official replacement" Arctic stars on the market at this time, (Official replacements, they've only just started giving them out!!), these appear at first glance to be quite good, and are die struck, so with my 12GBP, incl p&P I bought one complete with miniature, and compared with a known genuine example of an ACE in my collection, what do people think? To me there are two giveaways
    7. A few more since I've started, A few imperial fliers, some which may be well known. regards Alex
    8. Hi, not posted for a while so I thought that since the recent anniversary of the "Dambusters raid on the Mohne, Sorpe and Eder dams took place a short while ago, (16/17 May 1943) I've colourised two of the main men involved. Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris who eventually agreed to the raid, and Guy Gibson who undertook it regards Alex K ps I'm still looking for a good image of Barnes Wallis who invented the thing!
    9. Hi Gordon thanks for the additional information, regards Alex
    10. Hello Jonas, thanks for the reply, regards. I admit that my knowledge of BRD waffenfarbe is not that good and didffered from Wermacht versions, what did they do, any ideas? thanks Alex K
    11. Additionally two from the DDR, same request regards
    12. Hi all I have this BRD visor which I don't recognise the waffenfarbe colour, could anyone enlighten me, any help appreciated, best regards Alex K
    13. Hi all, I have over a number years collected at random. headgear, I got this one quite a few years ago. It obviously soviet and I was led to believe a tank regiment but I could be wrong. It has been worn, so the label is unreadable except for what looks like the date 1970.It also has a needle and thread secured in the sweatband, presumably as an emergency repair kit. Could anyone identify it more precisely? regards Alex K
    14. I have a suspicion, and I could be wrong, Moroccan
    15. Hi Noor thanks, I strive for accuracy, hence the request for information. regards Alex
    16. Not wishing to overshadow an excellent thread but attached Von Eichhorn in all his splendour
    17. I agree with comments made, I would love to make a visit one day. I understand that the cemetery was eventually divided by the Berlin Wall, and many of the graves on the "Soviet side" were cleared as a clear security space, is anyone able to confirm this? There are obviously other graves which have been "Cleared" due to Nazi links, the most prominent was Reinhard Heydrich who may or may not be still in there somewhere, his grave marker which was made of wood only until a victorious conclusion of the war when a more permament edifice could be erected, was presumably removed by the Soviets, A map showing what I believe to be original line of the Berlin Wall
