Steve Nice EK1! I think the blackness has something to do with the lacquer but I am not sure 100%. My best example also has this blackening at the top.
Ed, might be but I don't know. Based on the fact that I know of one HE-111 crew shot down over the south of England where 1 of the bodies was never recovered. No headstone was erected for this flier and he is listed on the German War graves site as having a 'sailors grave'. I would have thought if all the other crew are buried there then he would be also but this is not the case. Unless in somecases where the family requested a headstone be erected? Therefore the 'I.M.' ??? Rich
I must say, when I saw the back of this medal bar, alarm bells started ringing... just look at the bottom of the mounting cloth. Just a bit too haphazzard for my liking. Question is, am I totally wrong or would this make you suspicious too? Rich
John Looks like a beauty! Was this the one Carsten Baldes had? One question... the hinge (attached to the pin part) looks gilded. I had thought the pin was standard (just blued) for all pilot and P/O. Is it gilded or is it worn? The hinge just looks a bit odd in the pic. Rich
Klinsmann, a super example. I can't tell from the pic but is it an early one? No-one else have S&L? I bet if the thread had the word "Juncker" there'd be a rash of RK's posted!
UPDATE! Thanks to my friend Fran?ois Saez, who made me aware of the book about KG55. I received it today and found this photo.... Interestingly, KG55 also raided Belfast during early 1941. An odd twist to this incredible story. Rich
Brian Your example is intriguing... the hinge/pin/catch are like those from another example yet the front is Meyer. Here's an 'unknown' maker on the left with the Meyer example. You can see the standard Meyer hinge/pin set-up and compare with yours. Very interesting! Could your example be earlier? Rich
I was trying out various setting on the camera today (still haven't read the manual fully ) and got this nice pic. Anyone else caring to share S&L RK pics?
Mark Would there be any chance of getting a sharpe and close-up photo of the markings? I would love to see them up close and personal. An interesting and unusual badge to say the least! Rich
