    1. Laurence, Thank you for your compliment! Bill, Very nice tabs! One day I will have some of those! I especially like the reserve tabs! I have not seen too many of those around! I would love to find a complete set of Navigation tabs, but something tells me that I was very lucky to find this single. I would love to find a single board to compliment this tab. It it just me or does the tab on the tunic appear to be red rather than pink? Regards Paul
    2. I dont collect US medals, yet if I had a known original it would be the center piece! That is if I did not lock it up in a safety deposite box first. If you were to buy it for what you estimated, IMHO you would be getting it for a real steal. I feel that something this rare would be very difficult to put a price on... I live about 10 mins from Portland. What shop is it in again... I look forward to seeing a picture of it! I hope that you are able to buy it!
    3. I saw the thread on the railway badge! I bet that you never thought you would see that medal. What a suprise! Any word on how long he lived? Unfortunately, based upon his wounds and dietary restraints I do not see him living to a very ripe age... Congrats on this one of a kind group! Thank you for showing it! Paul
    4. Dave, That is a sobering letter. Such commitment and pride! Not many people like that around these days, that is for sure!! What awards are listed there in his book? Regards Paul
    5. Yet another unique and beautiful group Dave! Where do you find it all? Paul
    6. Rick, I kept forgeting to post them! Thank you for the reminder Dave, That is an awesome grouping! Is that photo still attached to his awards book? If so, what medals and orders are listed? Were the wound stripes documented as awards in the books? Paul
    7. Here is the letter that accompanied the sword. I feel very confident in this piece as the person I bought from is a long time collector(knows what this stuff is worth. He collects personality SS items) that sold it to me for far less than the sword is worth...even without the history. There was a photo of his uncle that I have as well. IMHO, this group has as much US historical relevance as German.
    8. I have this sword posted in the blades section of this forum... The sword has the owner's name engraved into the scabbard. Based on the story(I got sword from the nephew of the veteran) and the name on the sword, is it trackable? This officer must have been of significant ranking to have surrendered it to Gen Patton! I checked all of the books In addtion, I Google searched the heck out of it with no matches. Maybe someone out there knows something? Paul
    9. I am with the other guys in saying that your dagger is a real beauty! I, for one, have never seen such a pristine example! Envious... Paul
    10. Hi Otto, From what I can see, it looks to be an awesome dagger. Is there anyway to get some clearer close ups of the blade and handle? Is there a maker mark on the blade? Regards Paul Reck
    11. Of the medals you mentioned, I like the story of the ShoChow Creek medal the best! http://history.acusd.edu/gen/projects/moss...namarines2.html
    12. Prosper, Your explaination is perfect! Thank you! I have always wondered about the two processes! Paul
    13. Hi Prosper! Thanks for the clarification. What is the difference in the two processes? (the gilding and anodization process)
    14. The Fire Fighting medal does add a lot of color to a medal bar! I especially am attracted to the Luftschultz/Firefighting bar! Does the Green Firefighting medal have the same awarding criteria as it's better known counterpart? I had no idea that there were so many different designs. Do you have anothers to post? Paul
    15. Here is a link that explains the George medal. According to the article, only 50 were made! There is even a picture of one. Definately an interesting read! I would think that if you could even find one for sale, it would go for a heck of a lot more than $1,000! http://www.nps.gov/wapa/indepth/extContent...117-00/sec6.htm Paul
    16. Here is a story of a Coast Guard Officer who was awarded the Military Order of the Caribou. http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/hhamlet.htm
    17. I love your Iron Crosses! Are any of them maker marked?
    18. Even one of those would be seen only in my dreams!! The aluminum badges really seem to hold their gilt!
