I haven't been doing much collecting lately, as is the norm for me when sumertime arrives, but I did manage to acquire two really sweet unmarked zinkers I'd like to show. I know there are not a lot of 'zinc lovers' out there, but when they look as these do it's really hard to say no! The ROAG is definately FLL (or Unknown Maker if you like), but the GCB is a stumper. Hope you like! ERIC

Luftwaffe Night Fighter Clasp
ERIC replied to ERIC's topic in Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
I believe it was for the hefty sum of $225. The fellow was sure he had something of value, but didn't know what the clasp actually was. If I remember correctly his wife called it "the thing with the swastika on it" when I asked her how much they were asking for it. ERIC -
I beg to differ. I personally do not see a match at all. The gap at the top of the wreath put aside, the area between the rear talons/tail feathers and wreath is noticeably a different width. The photo of the Glider Pilots badge in wear appears to have a solid swastika detail compared to an open arm style on the "MFP" version. Now the kicker - the "MFP" version has a much larger, I'll say 'humped', version of the right wing (as you are looking at it) than the example in the photograph. The area between the top of the eagles head and upper wing is also greater on the "MFP" version, this due to the 'humped' wing. I've highlighted the areas in the following comparison pic. ERIC

Luftwaffe Pilot?s Badge by F.W Assmann.

Superb badge John! That eagle shows virtually no wear for a aluminum example! Another stellar acquisition my friend! ERIC -
WOW! Thank you Laurence for that VERY detailed explaination of the evolution of the Japanese mini sub. A lot of information I had not known about. I appreciate the time you spent educating me. ERIC
-
Hi Bob, Would you know if this mini sub is same type that was sent against Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941? Was there more than one type of mini sub in the Japanese Navy at this time of the war? Just curious! ERIC

Luftwaffe 2nd Model 1st Pattern ROAG
ERIC replied to ERIC's topic in Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Thanks fellas! I appreciate the comments. Well Bob, I think I got lucky with the pics as well - normally mine pale in comparison when put up against some of the other members 'professional' shots! Hey John, yours is a real beauty! As you say, comparatively rare, that's why I picked her up. Not the greatest condition-wise, but she's bona fide and fills a hole. Slim pickens' here in the states. @ Rich - don't know what happened around the head area mate, it just simply looks like wear, but your theory seems plausible. The head area appears to be the most worn part of the badge, along with the wing ridge and the drumstick/talons. These are the highest points on the eagle. Here's another pic of the head area at a slightly different angle. The fletching is there, but worn. (soft appearance) Also, in this closeup, notice the telltale wreath fissures. ERIC -

Hi All, Ole Lady Luck seems to have smiled upon me this past weekend. I have been looking for one of these for some time and while surfing the 'net the past Thursday I found another piece for the collection. I snapped her up rather quickly and the seller shipped promptly, arriving today! Not mint, but a sweet "been there" 2nd model of the Juncker 1st Pattern ROAG. For some odd reason I really like this one. Here she is...
