    1. If you're interested my latest article on scroll helmets is here: http://www.pickelhauben.net/articles/Scroll_helmets.html
    2. My goodness thank you! it will take me forever to go through these but thanks to you at least I can! Now all we need is the Verordnungsbl?tter for the other war ministers and for those key yearsof 1914 through 1918. So come on Dave. You have only done a small miracle this morning -- what have you done for us lately? Thank you very much -- and thank you profusely. Very gratefully VR/Joe
    3. We have a new article up on Landsturm. Take a look if you're interested. http://www.pickelhauben.net/articles/Landsturm.html
    4. Gordon, M15 spikes come up on eBay on a regular basis. Many M15 spikes were worn without spikes! Most collectors avoid that but it would be perfectly fine to display a helmet without any spike.
    5. thank you thank you! That is perfect - exactly what I was looking for. I guess I just didn't look at that site. Thank you very much.
    6. Thank you and of course you're right! Kraus in his two-volume work footnoted a specific AVB that authorized these guys experimental scroll helmets. As I dig I have found several disconnects. Just as you said... hard to pin down OB! Thank you again.
    7. Thank you and yes of course you are right! Kraus in his two-volume work footnoted a specific AVB for the use of experimental scroll helmets for these guys. There are many disconnects. Such is the elusive OB. Thanks again.
    8. Thanks for posting that! I will go back and look at what years I have been using. PS -- do you have a map it's that shows the geography well of the Hessian actions 1866-1867? I'm closing in on an Austrian source but the Hesse Homburg,Kassel, and Nassau thing I do not yet have. Thanks again.
    9. Does anyone have the OB for the 11th Army in Serbia October November 1915 with the information about MGAs? What MGA were assigned? They were attached to what level? Division? Corps? What were their nationality? For instance I know MGA 250 was from Wurrtemberg -- I have no idea where it was assigned besides a country of Serbia. Thank you very much in advance.
    10. I always thought it was a Navy thing. Look at this postcard -- your thoughts?
    11. Keith, The magazine is no longer printed and the organization is long defunct. The driving force behind the publication is deceased and I have been unable to find the copyright holder. There was a lot of good stuff in there. I think I now have all but three. The first three. They come up from time to time on eBay but seldom in a complete type of set, regularly just some individual copies. Some of the older collectors might have a batch they would be willing to sell. If you spend much time in San Antonio I could probably dig these out for you.
    12. This has a lot of potential! I am not a medal guy, but the entire Hessian world is poorly understood by most. I have nothing but praise for what you're doing what I would offer one suggestion. It really is quite selfish because that is what I'm trying to accomplish. I would love to see something on the history including a map. I have yet to find a clear map that I would feel comfortable with including in my writing. So if you find one I would love to get the same source. I think I feel fairly comfortable with what happened to Hesse after 1866. However, there were many boundary changes and ruling class problems prior to 1866. I would love to have you expound on that. Anything you added to the history would be great!
    13. David, The first picture you posted has a gentleman wearing an enlisted guard not mounted helmet. Not a dragoon helmet. The helmet pictured is a private purchase helmet with a correct parade plume normally used for the first and second Battalion of a foot guard Regiment. This article might be of interest about the plumes. http://www.pickelhauben.net/articles/Parade%20Plumes.htm Before we draw conclusions from that picture however, it seems that some photographers kept a supply of helmets on hand. So it is difficult to assign his unit based on the helmet alone. On the picture you have listed as a company photo, most of these are pictures of a Korporalschaft, this was a training group and these pictures were historically taken by a photographer at the end of training. It is instructive to see that there are two photographer backgrounds visible in the photo. So you can see how these guys were posed in front of a selected backdrop by the photographer.
    14. I am not a medal guy, nor do I know ifthis picture is well-known or not. I found them in a 1916 German-American newspaper.
    15. I have been swamped in the last 24 hours with e-mails about this book. I am not selling them. The publisher is selling them and you can buy directly from them. I?m not trying to be rude or standoffish, but I haven?t even seen a hard copy of the book yet. So I?m trying to put this out in a couple of forums in an effort to direct people the correct way. You can go to my web site www.pickelhauben.net there is a link there on the front page to the publisher and you can order it directly. Neumann & M?ller Imperial German Military Catalogues: A Resource for Collectors and Historians It will be available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble's and other booksellers in a matter of weeks. The cost from the publisher, AuthorHouse, is $28.99 and is three dollars less than the retail price. The ISBN is 1425938760 . Randy Trawnik who wrote the forward called Neumann -- "the wonder disk." Pretty high praise. Publishers blurb. This is a reprint of two military effects catalogs from Imperial Germany. Historians and collectors will be amazed at what was offered for private purchase. From medals to swords to horse furniture to guns and spiked helmets, page after page has amazing detail. The width of M?ller and the detailed depth of Neumann make these absolutely invaluable. Much of what is reprinted here has never been offered before. Discoveries in the Neumann catalog have revolutionized some thoughts about Imperial German collecting. This is a wonderful trip to the time of Kaiser Wilhelm II before WWI, and a must have resource.
    16. Thanks Rick these numbers have me confounded. No numbers--Little Corps numbers with big or small bn numbers came after large brigade numbers alone. Then this guy shows up with no corps numbers after 1915!!! Here is a guy from Landsturm XIX 20 -- Ldst.-1st Btl. Rochlitz formed August 1915, with a spikeless helmet. Also he has his numbers on the overcoat. Size of overcoat proves one size fits all. Is there a bottom to the learning?!?!?!~?!
    17. Please help me out here. This guy has his "Brigade number"???? and a steel helmet??? I thought these brigade number were OBE by 1915????? Help!
    18. Jef, I have no experience with these so I have no idea. Nice "thing" It is interesting.
    19. Jef, Similar from a 1903 catalog. Massive club stuff..medals..flags....not issue.
    20. Found the answer. The missing clue was buried in horse furniture where he sells a model 1912. Thanks for all your kind help!
