    1. Interesting. What seems to be preliminary designs (Bertrand?) for a grand cross breast star, neck badge, and breast badge for a design of the Rafidain that never existed. Maybe a "Qasim" variety? Interesting lost history.
    2. I think you were listed as a holder, whether you physically "held" one or not. Supply and demand? Recall seeing the 1817 (I think) Prussian rank list that showed all officer awards.
    3. A wide range of international treaties (= laws) came into force after WWII that did not apply then, in part as a result of the wartime experiences.
    4. I have no particular interest in extending this discussion, but international law makes a clear distrinction here. And, yes, it does apply to all invaders and occupiers, and not just with regard to items stolen from national museums or archaeological sites. You have posted your "trophy" for all to see. I hope you have not exposed the forum legally. I consider this discussion closed. Perhaps I should lock the thread, but I shall not do so (yet).
    5. OK: MR-381 Captain (later Lt Gen) Ashoke Banerjee, Army Medical Corps. One of the VERY FEW VrCs awarded for Korea! Also MiD for Korea, but not shown on the ribbon (that UGLY little leaf).
    6. Yes. Will be very interested to see at what prices things go, thougfh the likely designation to which they'll go is obvious, I think. Noticed that. Criminal. Though there seem to be some other oddities with that group.
    7. Absolutely right, Jim (and enjoy your trip!). We need to pause at the end of the year and at the end of this generation of the quiz to remind ourseleves how much we have learned thanks to our comrades here. Whether we answer right or not (or, like me, often don't even HAVE A CLUE, or a guess), we always learn. Thanks, Christophe and all! And . . .
    8. In any case, you still have the nice single "Motherland" that Dave sold originally. Unfortunately, only research will tell. But many things here don't smell seasonally nice.
    9. Lovely set, powerful history. Thanks for taking the time to post, Chris!
    10. Expect closer to "6" ("6+"?) than "2", but it will, I think, be worth the wait. Research schedules are outside the control of even the most reliable research provider. He won these gongs over 30 years ago, we can wait a few weeks longer?
    11. Absolutely! Paul said it! When all else fails, buy your own gifts. No one knows -- or loves you -- as much as you do, and it is perfectly clear that no one else understands and appreciates your phaleristic addiction the way YOU do. And do research it! There has never ever been such a thing as a"boring" Glory!!!
    12. No recommendation for the "Motherland" and no full service record? Service record may not be available, as he may be still living?
    13. And you don't WANT to know the sorts of prices being asked for A2s these days (and we're talking UB prices, not as if that makes much difference anymore)!
    14. Rarely am I left speechless. But _____________________________________________.
    15. No guesses as to who the recipient is? (No, you won't win the group. It is still with the recipient.)
    16. As things may slow down a lot with the holidays, "A" seems a good option? Others??
    17. WAYYYY outside my zone of comfort or competence, but very different from Alexander Lebedev's cross (http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21760) and very un-Russian looking.
    18. 1- The UN Korea Medal in Hindi was planned (for sure) and manufactured in the Caclutta Mint (I think), but government policy never allowed its acceptance. The whole Korea thing (other than the NNRC service) turned out as a real political embarassment for India. Efforts are currently underway to get that decision on the UN medal reversed for the few potential recipients who survive. 2- All are named. Normal practice for Indian medals until the last sad decade. Just waiting for someone to identify the recipient.
    19. The group: Vishisht Seva Medal class I (possibly Param Vishisht Seva Medal?) Vir Chakra GSM 1947 - Overseas Korea Poorvi Star 1971 Raksha Medal 1965 Sangram Medal 1971 Sainya Seva Medal - Jammu-Kashmir 25th Independence Anniversary 30 Years Service 20 Years Service 9 Years Service Or should I have made this a quiz???
