    1. Next, this one to a woman, a Medal for Distinguished Labor: Rukiya Abidova
    2. Two labor medals, both to Uzbeks, and linked together although they are not a group. And neither is numbered. The first a Medal for Valiant Labor [sic]: Rakhimberdy Temirov
    3. Sorry, but the only double (or better) Red Banners I have are to: 1- Major General Vatslav Bronislavovich Lavrinovich - but he never lived to get his "2" - http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=2326 2- Captain Vladimir Vasilievich Kulishenko - but his second Red banner isn't a "2" - http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=20951
    4. And overseas medals. There are more, somewhere, . . . .
    5. Here are a few of mine. Can add details as desired. Isn't it wonderful (= diverse = insane) when all you have to do is find a manufacturer selling the gongs?
    6. I am told -- by those more expert than I -- that there are major originality issues here.
    7. But many do desire such global conquest, Rick, many do . . . [background echoes of insane laughter] . . . really. Not for me, but some want every Red Star (or EK or ___) ever made and care not at all for the history.
    8. Agreed, Rick. But, then, you may merely be describing "collectors"? Look in the mirror, all?? As Pogo said: "We have met the enemy, and they are us."
    9. As these things go away -- and in this case it would be a blessing -- the images need (?) preservation. This one is an embroidered patch. Now, in unison, . . .
    10. True. It is not just a siphoning of the market, but a partitioning of the market. Part of me is glad to see these things going home, but part of me is bothered by the dead-end that that entails. And I think Christian is right about what this means the market.
    11. Most strange, Bob. I have just received delivery of some items I got that had gone unsold in that auction!
    12. Agreed. With some dealers the basic rules of logic (like the basic rules of economics) seem to function differently.
    13. My sense is that he is being very VERY slow. Not overly surprised . . . .
    14. True! Anyone care to offer a guess as to whose this was? I think I know . . . .
    15. An interesting post. Though I must admit that I am getting more and more confused the longer it goes on. But maybe that is just DDR phaleristics??
    16. The whole uniform world seems very different from the medal world, Doc. More clashing national egos and personal interpretations and less solid evidence (at least in English).
    17. Even with such poor pictures, this one doesn't look to me to be at all good.
    18. Yes: N19 - 50 Years of the Great Construction (1926-1976) N20 - 60 Years of the Great Construction (1926-1986) There is a 70 Years badge (N21). The last seems to be a NIB (Not In Battushig) 80 years badge (1926-2006), so very new and after the publication of his book. See: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10222 (into which I am merging this thread).
    19. Thanks. Yes, that is the highest in that variation. With 1038 the highest in Type 1.2, I think we can posit 1000 of type 1.1? Let me see if I can make changes in my forthcoming JOMSA article to reflect this. Thanks again!
    20. While it is bretty basic, you may find Philip J. Haythornthwaite, The Colonial Wars Source Book ([London]; Caxton Editions, [2000]; ISBN 1-84067-231-5) to be of some interest. It is free of the kinds of bias that infect many similar books. It may not be easy to find, though; I'd start on ABE Books.
    21. Skimp on the kids. sure, easy. Skimp on our owners (these so-called "pets") . . . you must be somehow kidding?!?!
