      this appears to be an early piece of patriotic or "sweetheart" jewelry. very nice design--enough so that the manufacturers actually deigned to patent it.

      thanks all; i suppose i should clarify my original question: has anyone seen a 1939 version measuring 30mm? this example looks very similar to a type 1 style.
