awesome cross! it's a shame that the tips of the hooks have been broken off. but that's what frequently happens to these, as they were originally very very sharp and quite delicate! again, :love:
hi christophe, another possibility is that this officer had a riveted version of this eagle w/swords. perhaps the rivet was loose when this photo was taken. that's why the swords appear crooked.
the one thing i immediately noticed is the strike flaw on the rim of the obverse, 6-9 o'clockish. does your zinc example have this? should i be alarmed?
hiya greg! yeah, lately i've been focusing on oddball, one-off examples. but then again, i've always had a penchant for 'em (as you are probably well aware of). at some point i'll get around to posting examples from makers like godet, wagner, friedlander, etc. etc. that haven't been adapted or messed with.
