Philippines Victory Medals
heusy68 replied to Tim B's topic in Inter-Allied Victory Medals of the Great War
Hello Gentlemens, Hello Mervyn, This is a photo of a Philippines WWI Constabulary Victory Medal, with a later ( but correct colors ) replacement ribbon. The credit for these 2 photos are to be to Jeff Floyd, from the web site i downloaded the 2 photos. If you read this post : Jeff a big and warm Hello. The 3rd photo is a length of actual ribbon, likely later ( but not recent ), that was once for sale on a famous web auction site, but due to the settings was not allowed to be shipped outside United States, so I was never able to get that ribbon. Regards to all. Emmanuel -
Peru - Daniel Carrion Order
heusy68 replied to redcross's topic in Rest of the World: Militaria & History
Here is a Commander ( 3rd Class ), of Order Daniel A. Carion, and that one is mine. But these Order rarely come by with their ribbon. I got that neck badge in Romania. It is interesting to note that Peru got another award, for the Medical Merit sphere, the Order of Hippolito Unanue Regards to all. Emmanuel -
Some close-up photo of the same set. On "normal" Grand Cross breast star, the center is in 1 piece, but here you can see, the center of the breast star is in 3 pieces, highly likely manufactured in gold. And only for General de Gaulle who was President of France from 1958 to 1969. It would be very interesting to know, if Queen Elisabeth II who was awarded a Grand Cross of the National Order of Ivory Coast in 1961, if she had also been awarded a set in gold with diamonds. Regards to all. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemens, And finally the 5th Class of the Order of 7 November. I think, due to the number of specimen I have seen, there should have been at least 2 productions series by Arthus Bertrand ( because on some breast star, there is difference in the quality of the enamel of the crescent & star inside the white circle at 12 O'Clock ). Regards to all. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemens, Hello Megan, This is an Order of Mohammed Ali Type 2, sold by a british auction house in late 2018. Despite being obsolete since the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, the company WORTH produced some set in metal gilt at request of King Fuad II ( who is King of Egypt in Exile ). But when his father King Farouk left the country, he abdicated in favor of his son who was still in summer 1952 a new born baby, but officially he was King Fuad II until the official abolition of the Monarchy in 1953. Regards to all. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemens, Hello Megan, It's actually Order of 7 November, but referig to 7 November 1987, when Zine ben Ali (who was a Minister of Interior from 28 April 1986 to 7 November 1987, then at the same time Prime Minister from 2 October to 7 November 1987 ) made a Coup d'Etat against the then President Bouguiba ( officially because he was too old : Bouruiba was born around 1900 ( sorry but some source states 1900, others 1903 ). The Order existed in 5 Classes + a Collar for the President of Tunisia. Here a photo of a 1st Class set. Regards to all. Emmanuel

But because they are proud of it. The medal is 41 millimeters in diameter, 3 millimeters thick, and weight 50 grammes with ribbon and suspension device. Ribbon width is 34 millimeters. Due to the ribbon on the background, and sorry that photo was taken a long time ago before I had a good smart phone . This could be the breast star of Order Mwani Julius Nyerere I would like Megan to focus the attention that also exist a Julius Nyerere Prize ( it's a silver neck badge hung from a plain dark green neck ribbon ). I bet this prize is NOT related to the Order I have Mwenge na Uhuru as a title for this photo. Anyways it's better than nothing. I saw this star in a private show room of a London Manufacturer, it is huge in size, likely 12 centimeter. Regards. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen, Yes this is the Order of the Torch of Kilimanjaro 1st Photo a sash badge of a 1st Class ( reverse is plain, just for an eyelet and a ring to attach to a sash. This sash badge is 85 Millimeters by 72 Millimeters and its weight is 173 grammes. A superb 3 parts construction badge. 2nd Photo a neck badge ? or part of a Grand Officer set, but on display in the Legion of Honor Museum Paris (ex collection Spada) 3rd Photo is what I do believe is the 3rd Class of the Order of the Torch of Kilimanjaro ( ex Spink Publication from the 1990ies ). Regards to all. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen, To reply to a post of Megan in 2014, concerning what should be the Grand Order of Samoa Malietoa Tanumafili III is clearly wearing a collar with a badge. I have look all the day from Government Office to Ministries, no success. I have been to pay my respect to his final place of rest at the end of the day. As the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will be in October 2024 in Apia, and as King Charles III will attend this meeting, I expect us to be patient, and maybe in a few months there will be good photo. Media Contact for this Commonwealth Meeting Rene Gashumba, in London. Regards to all. Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen, To reply to all, and especially to JDM who I do not have the honour to have met him personally : DO WE GO TO SAMOA ? The reply is yes. I'am currently in Apia, for a short stay at the end of a 4 countries Pacific Travel. And here are clear photo of the Order of Merit of Samoa. The first 2 photo are the neck badge full size, the third photo is the "miniature", but despite not having the oppportunity to measure it, the miniature shall be +/- 25 millimeter in diameter. The quality is very good for a modern award, NO INDICATION in the lid of the case of a manufacturer name. Badge could be a very good quality gilded metal ( with a thick layer of gilding like 20 micron ). I doubt it to contain a low amount of gold ( or less than 8 carat IF so ). I confirm the ribbon is likely to be 40 millimeter : Red/White/Dark Blue. If anyone know, where in Apia, I could photograph an Order of Samoa and a Malietoa Cross, ( maybe Parliament, it's not far ). In the new recently build Museum Malae O Le Aganuu Ma Measina a Samoa, they might have in their reserve, but do not diplay any. After I went to former Office of Government, then these people send me to Education Ministry, but without success. So if Megan can react, she also know my hotmail to contact me. I can go tomorrow, but please react quickly. Tomorrow end afternoon I head back to Sydney. Regards to all. Emmanuel

For those who do NOT follows. Prior to 1975, there was a Constabulary Bravery Medal, and also Corrective Institution Valor Medal ( in bronze ) and Meritorious Service Medal ( in silvered metal ); and there also was Firefighter Valor Medal ( in bronze ) and Meritorious Service Medal ( in Silvered metal ), so 5 Medals in total + the 3 for the Electricity Commission. After 1975 there is no more specific Corrective Institution or Firefighter Medal !!!!! Despite the Corrective Institution has a lot to do in Papua New Guinea due to the very high level of civil violence. Only in 2005, a Correctional Institution Medal was re-established. I Got no idea IF for a short period of time, pre 1975 Medals for Corrective Institution & Fire Fighter medals may or could have been continued to be awarded post independence !!!! But I bet that for long time, likely 1975 or 1976.....till 2005, The LSGC Medal with Civil Service Ribbon was issued to the Firefighter and Member of the Papua New Guinea Corrective Institution. If anyone wish to know more, I suggest this person to go spend 3 to 6 months in Port Moresby to try to interview ex firefighter ax member of the correctional service & ex policemen , but it is one of the most dangerous place in the world !!!! Emmanuel

Hello Gentlemen, Official issue of those post 1975 LSGC Medal are numbered on the rim, not named. I bet there "could" exist somewhere in Port Moresby an office where there could be a possibility to link a recipient to a medal by the numebr. But I wish good luck who whoever would try, unless, you know someone in Port Moresby Red & Black stripe ribbon are for Civil Servent. Blue & White stipe ribbon are for Police Red & White strip ribbon are for the Armed Force ( and I'am stll looking for such a one ) I have seen, thinner, lighter and lower quality version of these medals that are not numbered on the rim ( I do consider myself as fake ). Pre-1975 Police, Firefighter & Correctional Services Medal, all I own are un-named. But due to the very low number of them being issued, I bet some where named on the rim. Just they are incredibly hard to come by. Stll a fascinating field of research. Regards. Emmanuel
