    1. Hello, Here is a piece i have long been looking for, a original sample board from the company of Steinhauer & Luck. This pieces was offered on ebay (yes sometimes some good and nice items do surface !! ) and arrived today at my house. I am quite happy with it. The board does have the following awards attached: * A glider profiency badge (1 gull) * B glider profiency badge (2 gull's) * C glider profiency badge (3 gull's) => the above described are the lower part, all with button faster device and the marked " O " on the reverse. * Silver C glider profiency badge ( 3 gulls in a silver wreath) / full size And then a array of mini's. All badges are in mint condition and have no enamel damage etc ... Anyone ever seen such a sampleboard for glider badges ? Cordial greetings and thanks for looking,
    2. Hello, Very nice thread - keep this nice thread going. @ Hendrik : about "the 'Croce Commemorativa del Corpo di Spedizione Italiano di Russia' (Italian Expeditionary Corps in Russia Commemorative Cross). ", there was a good article in one of the recent BDOS magazines about these. Interested in it? , I can otehrwise bring that certain article with me for you at the next SKF meeting Cordial greetings,
    3. Hi Sal, As said before, love the effort Here is my small contribution, you have probably seen it already Cordial greetings, ps: How are the lists filling up in numbers ?
    4. Hello, Is there anyone who did ever see the maker mark : MFP on a tinny or other badge ? imperial or Weimar period? - Iff yes could you show it? - for who does it stand for? I have heard that it would be in relationship towards the former city of Posen (today = Poznan). That would declare the P ind the maker mark MFP. Iff the assumption of Posen is correct, is there anyone of the Imeperial guys who has a old telefonbook or add. list for the Posen area?, that might help also when looking ? Most probably looking after a needle in a haystack but always worth the try. All information is welcome. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4679e

    6. Hello, Here is another one from the small collection, a wound badge document for a glider pilot involved in the fighting in Tunesia during early 1943. Cordial greetings,
    7. Hello, @ Simon : " Signed by Erich Z?hr, RK, DKiG. " => exactly !!!!! And funny thing on Major Erich Z?hr is => he never seemed to have received the Honour Goblet ? DKiG : 19.03.1942 - as a Hauptmann KC : 23.12.1942 - as a Major The KC was awarded for the efforts of the KGzbV 172 in Russia during the hard winter months january towards mid 1942. And now lets break our heads over the unit mix up Cordial greetings,
    8. Hello, No interest anymore in thinking a bit ? To add a bit towards the thinking, who's signature can e found on the wound badge document? Cordial greetings,
    9. Hello Garry, Thank you for the tip, i would highly appreciate it when you find the book iff you can look the date up. I would like to share the info towards the German veteran who was along the capture from the Bitisch pilot in Tunesia. Hopefully we are able to find some info (needle in a haystack ?) as my friend the veteran is 89 years old and in rather bad health. Here is a remambrance piece (piece of parachute silk from the Britisch pilot) that the German vet. kept all these years after the war. I do not take the line "Neffew from Churchill" very serious but all other ino is correct and relevant. Cordial greetings and thanks for looking,
    10. Hello, Here is another unit specifyed one, namely from the KGzbV 172. Altough his unit was KGzbV 1 Riddle .......... (do you know the answer why this is ???????? ........... I know but lets think a bit ) The recipient was a Bordmechanic who was wounded while inside the "Cholm" pocket. Cordial greetings,
    11. Hello, Please post in this thread all kind of variants for the award document from the Luftwaffe Erdkampf Abzeichen. I have found and seen a rather large difference in these documents and so far we have not seen many appear over here. Let me kick of with a very nice one (IMHO ), this document is actually size : DIN A4 and is a so called "Frontfertigung". This document is from a former Glider pilot (who did receive his first points to earn this award in the Cholm encerclement, etc ... ) . I have only encountered this type with another glider pilot from the very same unit, at that time : 3. Go. / Schleppgruppe 2 feel free to post
    12. Hi Rick, Thank you very much for the help on these. Are there award numbers known for both of the House orders? Can this person be identifyed or is this simply impossible? Cordial greetings,
    13. Hello, Here is a painting from a dear friend of mine, he is more interested in the painting technique but for me the orders and ribbons are more of interest offcoarse. Can you guys help me to ID the awards? I do know the Iron Cross 1 e class and the ribbon for the second class, but especially the neck cross and blue ribbon are of interest. Me think in the direction off Lippe-Detmold or something similar . All info on the painitng, uniform, etc ... are equally welcome. Looking forward towards you guys replys. Greetings,
    14. Hi Dave, Thanks for the advice, i have been looking at the reffered thread and have not found a satisfactionary answer in it. Oh well im just as happy, to blob or not ... Cordial greetings ps: have been looking again at the near mint crosses from both Darrel & Terryn superior pieces
    15. Hello, Thank you both gentlemen for the replys. I think it is rather a blob instead of a paint blob. A paint blob could easely have been removed IMHO during the manufacturing proces. Cordial greetings,
    16. Hello Mike, Nice to see you also arround here . That is indeed a very attractive Krimshield document. Thanks for sharing that one. It always seems to me that there exist a load off different Krim variants (also quite logical when thinkning about the number of awards). Cordial greetings, ps: Walle, feel free to post the EK 2 document in the appropriate thread, always nice to see a few more
    17. Hello, And here is a enlargement of the date => note the blob. Cordial greetings,
    18. Hello, I have obtained a unmarked W?chtler & Lange iron cross 2 nd. class. No maker mark whatsoever, the cross has the back painting on the core almost 95 % retained. I noticed however on the frontdate "1939 " a major blob between the 1 & 9. Has anyone else noticed this?, could this be due to die that has become damaged at some point? All opinions are welcome Cordial greetings,
    19. Hi, It depends but i do think we can know it for sure. hwoever then we need a bit of your help with dates Chris Do you have a idea on when he won his awards during WWII (such as clasps towards the iron cross, etc .. ), this can be the clue. let me explain a bit. It was common practice before the institution of the large NSFK glider badge to wear a bullion version of the Silver C badge. After institution of the Large NSFK badge it was one of the award criteria (bedingungsgruppe II) that holders of the Silver C where eligible to receive the large NSFK badge. So here is the clue IMHO. Iff you can date the picture better then we might have the answers. Cordial greetings,
    20. Hello, Very nice awards, is the ROA a so called "Lilla" example? just curious Cordial greetings,
    21. Hello, Thank your for the additional info + pictures. This is a just wonderfull grouping to say at least and is for me almost the summum one can reach. When looking into gliding those days and nowadays then we do see indeed that technique has evolved in a enourmous way (glider planes for beginners back then where quite simple models - like the one you show (nickname = Sch?delspalter , now they use all available techniques and the same training level is offcoarse much quicker reached but this does not bring the " leistung " of these old daredevils into descredit. The same is true for the silver C award (Leistungsabzeichen im Silber), in the 1930 & early 1940's this was a very hard badge to obtain, one had to fullfill quite a few conditions to earn it. And with the planes they used that was no piece of cake for sure. The numbers do speak for themselves - between 1931 and 1942 there where only about 2.000 awarded And yes your person was nr. 387 to receive it. When we look at the numbers of these we do see that during the early years (1931 towards 1937) the numbers do remain quite stable, from the mid 1937 towards early 1940 numbers where skyrocketing suddenly and the war did kill this hobby and the opportunity to earn the needed qualification. This badge is s study on its own (wich im bussy with and yes a list off all particiapnts will be published once ) and is so unknown that you will see the most stupid catalogue prices for such raritys. And i have not yet started to talk about the large NSFK glider piltos badge About the pictures. It is very unclear but iff you can date them through the awards then you are already on a good way (any idea Chris?) I think from what i do see that your person is wearing the bullion version of the Silber C on his tunic (wich would date this picture between 1940 and mid 1942)? , iff you can give us some of the award dates (when available) then we can have clarity on this right away. Cordial greetings,
    22. Hi chris, Thank you very much in sharing this info, absolutely stunning , now my research can go ahead Will shoot you a PM with a few questions, etc. .. Cordial drooling greetings,
    23. Hello, Mayby he was later transferred towards the Stuka-Geschwader 77 ? Iff so then you have a change that he had earned the following awards: * DKiG : 24.11.2941 as a Oberleutnant * RK : 15.07.1942 as a Hauptmann Cordial greetings,
    24. Hello, Very nice thread guys => and very nice pieces Here is one that i have for over 4 years by now and it came originally from H.Weitze. It is the unit pin from the "Schleppschule der Lw." And here is a little background on this sinister unit ( that lasted not that long ) , it was grounded at the end off 1940 by Oberst Drewes and its purpose was to train pilots and crews ( mostly Me 110 ) in towing Glider planes from the type Me 321 ( Gigant ) The pilots where trained in several stadia and they advanced trough several glider planes for its purpose to tow the big beast called Me 321, towing this plane was a rather dangerous job and the first method used to tow it was the so called " TRoika " Schlepp ( this was a towing method in wich 3 Me 110 where attached to the Me 321 ( each with its own towing cable ) and they had the task to tow the Me 321, needles to say that with the smallest missing accidents could happen ( and they sure did happen believe me ) + in many cases resulitng in both the loss off the Me 110 and its crew . Another task of this schleppschule was to train the pilots to fly another monstrum called the Me 323 ( or the motorized version of the Me 321 ) , the School only existed in its original appearance untill the end of 1941 and at April 1942 the staff of this training unit became the core of the so called Erganzungsgruppe ( S ) 2 places where this particular unit was active where ( in order of date ) : 1 ) Jesau ( near Konigsberg ) the beginning 2 ) Leipheim & Obertraubling Cordial greetings,
