    1. Did the logbook entry come with the EK doc? Or did you dig that out somewhere else? I've got my second EK doc to an artilleryman coming in the mail... I'll scan when it gets here.
    2. I can see a line of Imperial officers lining up to greet Rick and say thanks for "resurrecting" my bar...

    3. I know what you mean, Chris. While I have nothing that even comes close to your or Rick's knowledge, I've always thought a website dedicated to Imperial artillery is needed. I even bought website software a couple years ago and started "building" the structure and pages. No real primary source stuff, but maybe still worthwhile... I also started "shopping" for a web hosting site. Then "things" got in the way, I stopped even buying artillery stuff. Time get "busy" again and see what is worthwhile to put online.
    4. Wow, now I'll have to start digging through coin boxes! Well done.
    5. Sometimes museums even sell...to keep themselves running.
    6. Great story. Now, people send him two or three Purple Hearts a week, found at yard sales, in landfills and junked cars, in the hopes he can put them back into the hands of the soldiers' families. Amazing.
    7. I've been going to Gettysburg off and on since the late 70s; the battlefield hasn't changed much in that time... Still fairly "untouched". I was at Fredericksburg over the weekend; that battlefield has been totally absorbed by the town. The killing fields before Marye's Heights were built up in the 1920s/1930s with houses.
    8. 25 issues of Kaiserzeit, Vol II-XI, available on abebooks http://www.abebooks.com/Kaiserzeit-Journal-Imperial-German-Military-Collectors/10427611399/bd
    9. Good point, Rick. But if I had a choice of only one for now, it would've been the Wound Badge. And now that I look over the bids, the person that won the Wound Badge doc, never even bid on the EK2 doc.
    10. I've been doing this with Irish regiment cap badges and cigarette silks... I'll have to start a thread.
    11. Of course, now I'm very frustrated that I just won an artillery EK2 document, but not the Wound Badge document to the same soldier. Of course, if the idiot hadn't split them into two separate auctions! So, now that I know there is another document, somehow my EK2 doc just isn't the same without it's Wound Badge mate.
    12. It pains me somewhat to say so, but , when it comes to collecting Imperial... I have to admit you are fairly logical. And I see your point. However, if a soldier damaged ONE shoulder board, did he get a new pair? Or a single? See... Logic that contradicts your's.
    13. So, with your logic, Chris, a tunic without the trousers (let alone without the shoulder boards ) is not worth collecting . Or without a cap for that matter. Or boots? Heck, if you can't have the COMPLETE uniform, what's the point? How about a bayonet without the scabbard (although a scabbard without a bayonet seems pointless)? Oh, here's a good one... How about a single medal instead of a bar? Or a medal bar without the matching ribbon bar? Or only one document to a person clearly with other awards? A British Victory Medal without Pip and Squeak? Pip without Squeak and Wilfred? We all see value in those "without" combinations. I'm sure even you, Chris, will agree with most of that (maybe not the bayonet). Of course, most of us will agree that "with" is much better and preferred if possible. But it isn't possible. Most of the time. So, yes, a single shoulder board would be very welcome in my collection.
    14. I agree with Don. Visit Gettysburg and walk the ground on the flank where the 20th Maine fixed bayonets and charged down hill through the thicket and woods. Awesome. Today I am at Fredericksburg Battlefield. Another awesome battle.
    15. Looking forward to our first autumn on the Chesapeake...

    16. Thanks for sharing. Considering what is outside, the inside must be pretty good too...
    17. I think way too many people take themselves way too seriously... Just sayin'

IG - any reason for saying this? You must have something in mind?

Just a casual observation and a reminder to myself to stay out of the fray. ;-)

I include myself in the "way too many" group for the record.

    18. At least one Boonzaier was smart enough to get into the artillery...
    19. Jens, I do daily searches for items on sale from Prussian artillery regiments...on multiple sites. I'll keep an eye out for this one... PS: It's a shame it's lost...it's a very nice medal.
    20. Started classes for teacher certification tonight... Signing up for a German refresher course to see if I can pass that license exam.

    21. Looks like they "borrowed" from the US Occupation Medal's Berlin Airlift device...
    22. Siding may have to come sooner... Finding problems. Along with some rotten wood. No collecting in 2014 either. *crying*

It's like pulling a bandaid off...just pull it off in one stroke. Get it done with. Then it's done. You'll be back at it in 2015. Meanwhile you can enjoy what you have, do research, organize and recoop.
