    1. Another Bavarian... With the exception that this is a battalion, not a regiment: Bayr. Fußartillerie-Bataillon 12
    2. Here's a very plain one, but interesting ... at least to me; A kanonier in Kgl. Pruess. Fussartillerie Batterie 102 sent this to Cochem Mosel in July 1916... From the Austrian KuK Feldpoststation Nr. 254
    3. We've seen these little campaign crosses in the "1870s and earlier bars" thread, but might be nice to show some singles... Anyone have some to add? Düppeler Sturmkreuz 1864 Alsenkreuz 1864 Erinnerungskreuz Königsgrätz 1866 Erinnerungskreuz Mainarmee 1866 Erinnerungskreuz Treuen Kriegern1866
    4. Nice one. It's good to start seeing these lesser known WWI medals being posted.
    5. Prussian Dienstauszeichnung 3. Klasse IX Dienstauszeichnung 2. Klasse XII
    6. Exactly! And the bean soup out of the Gulaschkanone! European armies do this right; unfortunately, not a real tradition of the US Army.
    7. Precisely what I was anxious about when getting the wonderful new Epson. That after I scanned some of my "gems," the GMIC experts would educate me about all the fakes in my collection. I at least had a small gift from Rick Research when I expressed this once; "don't worry about it, we've all had fakes at one time or another." Something I hold on to... It's a learning process. The advice received here is priceless. Unfortunately, the fakes cost money. I've had this MVK for almost 8 years. I joined GMIC 5 years ago. Live and learn. Can I at least make myself feel better by calling it a "reproduction"?
    8. A common aspect of soldier life... Gulasch and slang phrases. Post your images of soldiers having meals in the field.
    9. Father Rick will hear your confessions in the Lounge
    10. Interesting twist...
    11. I think the AOM discounts any break in service between WW2 and Korea.. And you are right again - many possibilities - such as no NDSM because this is a "theater" made bar in Korea before he was awarded the NDSM. I have a bunch of racks in my drawer that come from various times in my career that don't show my whole rap sheet. It's only a point in time.
    12. The end of WW2 1945 to the beginning of Korea 1950 accounts for about 5 years + some Occupation duty with AOM + enough WW2 campaign stars to account for at least another 1+ years; meaning to be an enlisted bar, he should have at least TWO GCM. I see one...equally 3 years. Thus, I believe it is highly unlikely that this is the bar of an enlisted soldier, but rather a company grade officer with prior enlisted time. It's not a question of "seeing" but analyzing and deducing. Of course, it is indeed speculation, but highly likely speculation. I suppose we could assume it's an enlisted bar if we also speculate that he was a "bad" boy at some point and didn't get a second GCM. You are correct, we don't know with provenance or paperwork, but 90% of this hobby is speculation IMHO. I did wonder about the lack of a V device for the BSM. But I'm thinking in WW2 and Korea the V device wasn't as "generously" awarded as it was later, especially if a lot of that combat time was enlisted.
    13. Bavarian gunners. Card has stempel of 1. Bayerisches Landwehr Feld-Artillerie
    14. I think he is suggesting that he started WW2 as enlisted and somewhere along the line received a commission since with the service reflected in this bar, he should have more than one GCM. Officers are authorized to wear the GCM they earned as prior enlisted.
    15. The few on the internet dealers are "unreasonable" prices in my opinion. I picked this one up 6 years ago for the price of a couple Hefeweizens in Munich.
    16. Another artillery EK
    17. A Bavarian regiment. Kgl. Bayer. 9. Feldartillerie-Regiment Too bad it's not color.
