    2. what a beauty. this european-made medjidie-badges (godet, rothe, kretly, etc) are highly sought after and obtain considerable higher prices than the turkish standard-medjidies. josef
    3. IMHO 3000 USD ist overpriced. On 19th November 2008 the vieneese dorotheum sold a cased 1.st Class set (1st Modell 1922-1938) made by Garrrard Condition I/II for 1100 Euro with buyers premium 1340 Euro (1650 USD). Lot number was 3244 The auction was well-attended with lots of international buyers on the floor and on the telephone. as far as i know the GC-Set of the order of the two rivers went to canada. dorotheum regards josef
    4. In AH they followed the same practice. All Orders made of Gold (exept the Golden Merit Crosses) hat to be returned to the orders-chancery. The heirs had the possibility to buy the orders if they wanted to keep them. This practice of restitution continued till the early 1940ies from where quittances are known. In the chancery the orders were reissued (I have a 1860 Iron Crown reissued to a swedish citizen in 1912/13), repaired/adapted (I had a 1860 Iron Crown where the war decoration was perfectly removed) and reissued or melted. as far as i know this practice didn't apply to foreign recipients. regards josef
    5. In the 1904 Schematismus I found a Major Anton Christl Generalstabschef 1. InfanterieTruppenDivision in Sarajewo who became Generalstabs-member on 1st of November 1903. At this time he was only decorated with the 1898 Jubilee-Medal In the 1914-Schematismus (page 1038) I found Oberst Anton Christl (25Years-Service Cross, JuileeMedal 1898, 1908 Cross, Bosnian Medal) as retired Officer in special assignement to the Kriegsarchiv since 2nd of January 1911. regards josef
    6. As Addition a beautifull pre-1867 longs service award for 25 years on original ribbon and with tortoise shell backing that was recently sold on ebay germany for only 132 euro. josef
    7. Congratulations. it is a real nice one. I will send it the following days. sorry for the delay but i caught a cold. PS: Did you buy something at Gorny&Mosch? unfortunately i misssed the real gold Imtiyaz with sabers regards josef
    8. @Avsar, thanks for showing. It is always nice to see real GOLD. Which one is rarer do you think Kurdistan 1847 or Bosnia 1850? The real gold lyakat should be more 'common' regrads josef
    9. @Eric The Mariannerkreuz instituted 1871 by the Deutscher Ritterorden was given to catholic nobility who served as orderly or, more common, donated money to the Order. (nickname nobility-dog-tag). There existed a breast badge and a neck decoration. The colour of the ribbon was black (1871-1885) and later Black/silver (the pattern similar to the austria Kriegsband - forinstens for bravery medals) The Mariannerkreuz is not a kind of special class of the order. the order based on the classic system of civalric oders with Grandmaster, Knights of Grace, Profess-Knights, laybrother cross, priors cross. there insignias looked different regrads josef
    10. A special K?rntner Cross f?r Verdienst (241 issued) was sold recently on ebay. IMHO it was a good one. EBAY regards josef
    11. As far as i know at the moment they ask for 500.000 yen (approx. 3200 Euro) for the golld merit cross josef
    12. Not very gentlemanlike, as old-hand in the collecting area he should accept his mis-purchases and resell the fake with correct description. Unfortunately such behaviour happens permanently in the collecting world. IMHO the reseller shows that he isn't any better than the one who sold the fake for the first time. josef
    13. thanks Ed for the link. Unfortunately i can't see hardly any pictures. Buyers writes First class: a nine-pointed star in silver with plain rays grouped in threes but the star i have shown is a ten-pointed. The greatest difference: this badges center disk depicts an Lion with sword in his fangs - typicall for the military division of the L/S Order. i will try to find out more by reading buyers article. i hope so. regards josef
    14. Surfing on the web i found this decoration by a wellknown dealer. He says Iran Ghajar Military Order of Lion and Sun, a very different version and of EXTREME RARITY in low grade gold and gilt, First Class badge, 10 points, hallmarked on the ring and hand painted high relief center. Crown above the lion and another on the body itself, the first one of its kind that we have handled Price U$7500 o4368 I always thought that this decoration is a variant of the order of science. Can somebody with more knowledge id this decoration: THE LINK regards josef
    15. Kriegsdekoration = Wardecoration there exist also very rare and funny boxes from 1860/70 where ist written F.D. = Friedensdekoration = peacetime decoration regards Josef
    16. No help for me. BTW, I have to appologize for flooding this thread with MY MVKs. when it comes to this collecting area i'am always a liitle bit over-motivated . I pledge that i will work on this in the future. josef
    17. Unfortunately it is only the beginning of a slippery road @eric a really good idea. i always like to see 2nd classes. maybe elmar can add some pictures aswell. regards josef
    18. Could be. If you really really like them imho it looks like gold-paint. i have one cross where the reverse is very close to the cross you showed and it is definitely post-1918 but NO hallmarks. personally i believe that your mvk is also post-1918. but maybe someone is able?to ID the hallmarks. sorry for bad pics but i'am missing daylight. josef
    19. it is maybe of german postwar -manufacture as the shown bar. the bravery-medal is also a spangenst?ck marked BRONZE on the rim. Steiners book is a softcover-booklet with 50 pages and arround 15 pictures of soldiers, iron merit crosses and awarding documents (legitimation, besitzzeugnis). josef
    20. @eric, thanks for the close-ups. i'am a liitle bit confused. caould it be that your cross was later golded or painted gold? I myself can't ID the hallmarks but the way reverse of the wardecoration is done, as ductile as the frontside, i only know from pieces after 1918, often done by german manufacturers. normally the reverse looks like this. so i personally thin that cross and box dont match each other. the miniature is very beautifull and IMHO and older one. BTW if you ever want to get rid of it
    21. Exactly. It was possible to earn 'only' a golden bravery medal. i add pics of a german made bar. Twice silver bravery 2nd class and Karl-Truppen-Kreuz and NO bronze bravery medal. unfortunately i don't collect pictures they are all stolen from steiners book. josef
