Very nice story - great group. You should have the medals engraved with his name, serial number, and unit. Cheers Captain Albert -
Bundesrepublik Anything new?
army historian replied to Hauptmann's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Hello hauptmann, Not much but this is in Rear Admiral (Kontra Admiral) Walther Koehler's group (1901-1960) service. This Cased 1st Class Federal German Republic Order of Merit is by Steinhauer & Luck. He received the award in 1959. Cheers Captain Albert -
I just bought this really nice (detailed) 1914 Iron Cross miniature no bargain, but not bad. Cheers Captain Albert

Spanish American War Spanish Campaign Army Service Medal
army historian replied to Noor's topic in United States of America
Noor, Very nice medal with the box. Appears to be a 1933 contract piece. Traceable for this medal is SPANISH WAR SERVICE 1-16650 - serial numbered no prefix. I like it and would consider trade even though it is not traceable. Value is hard to call probably $100.00 to $170.00. Cheers George -
Thanks Wild Card, that is a great story and find. Also thank you for the images - I will now know the correct handles to locate for the cross. Should be simple (cheap copy of the Hohenzollern House order) would do great. This also does not damage any real pieces. Yes one thing about finding things miss identified or unknown - is really great as (you said) rescued from the junk pile. Happy hunting - cheers Captain Albert

Thank you Dave and Wildcard - as you saw in the first pictures the handles of the swords were missing - but the cross guards are original. I thing you may both be correct about the "Roman" style hilts. I am not that familiar with the other German states other than Prussia. WildCard said this might be an earlier version. This Cross was bought in Eureka, CA - USA a small city of about 27,000 - about 90 miles from the Oregon border. A relatively isolated location. No telling where this cross has traveled and ended up here. Again thanks Captain Albert

Thank you Matt, that is very helpful. Andreas Ising said there were only 600 awarded over it's entire period of award. The ribbon is the same as the Oldenburg House Order (Blue with red edges). I plan to fix the hilts. Not bad for a $3.00 investment. Here it is after a little work and with the sales tag. Cheers Captain Albert

Small group MG D. H. Connolly

Hello all, I just picked up this small group to Major General Donald H. Connolly WW2 Commander Iran/Iraq Command. He earned the Army Distinguished Service Medal and a Legion of Merit. The photo seems to have been taken around 1919/20. He is wearing a WW1 Victory ribbon and one overseas stripe, rank Colonel. The name tag in the lower left is old c. 1920s-1930s possibly WW2. The Legion of Merit ribbon is 1/2 inch high and has the old WW2 clutch backs. Since I have very little invested in this I figured it was a nice interesting little group. I also got some of his son's ribbons and rank insignia - Col. Donald H. Connolly Jr. Cheers Captain Albert
