    1. Hi all. Posting these for Bill... again he's a member but is not very adept at all this computer stuff so trying to help him out. He's got some silverware from the various services and wants to confirm if they are original and if possible get a valuation of each of the pieces. I'm fairly sure about these first ones... Luftwaffe issue. I have several and don't see anything that's raising any doubts in my mind... but multiple eyes and opinions are always best. First the serving spoons. The larger one is 11 3/4" long, and the smaller one is just over 8 1/2 " long.
    2. Would LOVE to see it! Many thanks! :jumping: Sure wish Rick were on as if anyone could ID it it would be him. Dan
    3. Had to deal with a minor crisis on this end so haven't been around much as I'd have liked to be. The heating/defrost systems went out in my car. The local mechanic thought it was a computer module and only a dealer can fix that. So only dealer in the state that could get us in was in Grand Forks. Between being on duty Thursday and dealing with this, then having to take Friday off to go there (2.5 hours each way), get it fixed, run some errands and then get home, was up over 24 hours straight and then yesterday just crashed till 6 p.m. then was playing catch up all evening. Hoping things will now get back to normal. Will come up with a question today... need some time to think of something. Dan
    4. Spasky Tower Order of Victory Order of Kutuzov Order of Glory Jubilee Medal for the 40th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War But is it also shown on the reverse of the 800th Anniversary of Moscow medal? Dan
    5. Uwe is correct... sorry... I didn't catch that one first time I looked. Simple enough a fix on that one. Dan
    6. Yup... Victoriana is good: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoriana Great pieces Chris! :jumping: Dan
    7. Love what we're seeing so far Tom. Great collection! I'm sure alot of folks were like me... used to see this stuff for cheap in surplus stores all over and never gave it much thought. Now I wish I had. They're great to display the 57 awards on not to mention any Bundeswehr badges and such that come down the road. Looking forward to more. :jumping: Thanks so much for sharing! Plus it's great getting some activity going in this section again! Dan
    8. Mucho thanks Greg! :jumping: It'll be a bit before it arrives as it's coming from Estonia. Pics are the sellers by the way. Can't wait to see it in person... it will be the first I've actually been able to hold in my hand and not just see in pics. Dan
    9. Oh, and Welcome aboard Tom! Do you collect photos or ?? And thanks to Paul and Uwe for jumping in here! :jumping: Dan

    11. Three Soviet awards that are extremely common and very cheap in two of their forms... but extremely rare and rather expensive in the third form. What are these three awards? What are the three forms or variations? What is the rarest form or variation of the three types and why? Dan
    12. The other Allied checkpoints were on the Autobahn from the West: Checkpoint Alpha at Helmstedt and its counterpart Checkpoint Bravo at Dreilinden,Wannsee in the south-west corner of Berlin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkpoint_Charlie The border crossing existed from 1945 to 1990 and was situated near the East German village of Marienborn at the edge of the Lappwald. The crossing interrupted theBundesautobahn 2 between the junctions Helmstedt-Ost and Ostingersleben. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helmstedt-Marienborn_border_crossing The checkpoint was located on the motorway A 115 (known within Berlin as the AVUS), between the Berliner locality of Nikolassee and theBrandenburger rural community of Drewitz, part of the municipality of Kleinmachnow. The checkpoint was the nearest motorway border crossing point to the Helmstedt-Marienborn border crossing ("Checkpoint Alpha") on the border of West Germany, making it part of the shortest highway transit route between West Germany and West Berlin. The checkpoint was shifted slightly during 1969 from Drewitz (part of Potsdam),[2] after the East German authorities realigned the transit route to eliminate a brief re-entry into GDR territory before transit traffic could finally enter West Berlin. The new checkpoint was relocated toNikolassee (part of district Zehlendorf). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkpoint_Bravo Dan
    13. Thanks Paul... just the guidelines we needed. We'd hit that neighborhood on the Austrian so a good confirmation and this will help re: the Sudetenland. As always I'm deeply grateful for you help. Dan
    14. Hi all. I'd posted these in a thread way back in 2006 but only got one comment.and no valuation. I have someone that's very interested in buying these, and although we've both been looking online we can't nail down a price for sure. Any help would be deeply appreciated. As I've said before I've not been able to get to shows in many, many years and my main source is Ebay and here. So I just don't have a really good idea on how much to ask and he's in the same boat re: making an offer. We both want to see each other happy in the deal and that it's fair to both parties. Anyhow, please... any help anyone can give on nailing this down would be deeply appreciated. If you feel more comfortable replying via PM please do so... just really need some help here.
    15. Okay folks... been super quiet here for ages and finally managed to get one: Dan
    16. Absolutely beautiful! :jumping:  Looks like it was just made yesterday... fantastic condition. Love the way you've displayed it. Thanks for sharing! Dan
    17. Welcome aboard! :jumping: Very nice grouping. I've actually never seen a document for the Guards badge before... at least not that I can remember. Very complete. Would love to see the photo from the ID book not to mention the pages of same. You mention the award booklet for the 85 OGPW2... do you have the Order as well or just the booklet? If not the Order seems kind of odd they'd part with that separate from the rest. Hoping you have it. If so please show it... some collectors don't think too highly of them but to me they are all part of the whole picture. Congrats on a very nice grouping and all the hard work you've put into translating everything. Dan
    18. I believe it's the daughter... something left of the husband. That would be my interpretation on this one. Dan
    19. The latest... Red Flag Order of Labor. Charles says these were the type issued from 1957 to 1990 (Kadar era coat of arms) with 594 being awarded during those years... this being mid 1970's production. http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2012/post-873-0-90945100-1327027402.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2012/post-873-0-21806400-1327027427.jpg I've got feelers out for a case as well as a ribbon and miniature device on same... with luck I can have it all dressed out in it's own garage before long. :jumping: By the by... these are the sellers pics... I'll do my own scans and post once I have it in hand... which should be sometime around Monday thru Wednesday this coming week (knock on wood!). Dan
    20. Christophe... if you'll accept, I'd like to pass the honor for the next one back to you. I'm getting ready to head back out the door and no idea when I'll be back or when I'll have time tonight to get back into web stuff. Many thanks! Dan
