    1. Hi Jon, A good question! I myself have been wondering about the locations mentioned here. Hoping Gordon will be able to shed some light on this. Would love to see a map with the locations pointed out, if possible. Dan
    2. Hi Gordon, Very cool! And love the armband. I keep telling Vic and Gordon they each need to pick one up since generally they're dirt cheap, although very well made. I'm still keeping my eye peeled for the Border Guard version. I only saw it once a few years ago and hoping another pops up. Thanks for posting the pic! Dan
    3. Hi Grant, Terrific new additions! LOVE the bar!!!! And it's once again got my favorite leading the pack. Love the postal medals too... it's the first I've seen in those earlier cases... generally they're in the plastic ones. Sorry I missed them but hopefully I'll get a set at some point. Dan
    4. Hi Gordon, Many thanks for all this great info! I'd assumed they were on the same level as the informants and I was not aware that this was something they'd done for a long time. I guess they were similar then to our reserves here in the states? Helping at big events, traffic accidents, things of that nature. Will definitely be keeping my eye out for more such docs in the future. Thanks! Dan
    5. Thanks Gordon. I wonder how many of these are still running around out there... at least this complete. You'd think most of these folks would have destroyed or otherwise gotten rid of these after the wall fell... but then again they estimate 80% of the population were working for the police in some capacity or another so perhaps there wasn't much of a point. But I was very happy to nab this one. Dan
    6. Hmmmm, very cool! Love all your new additions Vic. But think that's terrific that those boards are Reichsbahn. Had I only known. But hey, at least now I know what to look for. And quite a bit of info on the swallows nests. That would be even more cool if the green is police since you have a good sized police collection now. Well done on all counts!!!! Oh, out of curiosity how does the back of the banner look? Didn't know if it was an early or later type. Keep on truckin' my friend. Gotta get em' all! Dan
    7. Hi Sergey, A terrific presentation and an extremely fitting memorial you've made to all those who served and those who perished during the Great Patriotic War. Well done! Dan
    8. Hi all, The ID doc arrived so here are some additional scans:
    9. Hi all, My latest addition... soon to be added to this tunic in place of the brown officers belt: Dan
    10. Hi Eric, I looked through my Wordpad docs as I generally save interesting things like this just in case links go bad, etc. No luck. But I did a google search and here is the result... plenty of articles and info on the subject: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=h...G=Google+Search Although I'm not "positive" that second set of links may be the same article as they're also from Vilnius where the original was from. Dan
    11. Hi Belaruski, Sorry to say but on this part of the question... you didn't get it. The first man is "not" Jonas Ple?kys. Another hint: He did serve in a seagoing capacity... but not in the Soviet navy. Dan
    12. Hi Belaruski, You're absolutely correct on this part of the question. Well done. Sorry about it being mentioned earlier in the thread... I simply didn't have time to go all the way through it before posting but had hoped I'd have come up with something new. But seems it was still a bit of a challenge so hoping it worked out okay after all. Dan
    13. Hi Charles, WOW! When you say "instant' collection"... you're not kidding! Fantastic! Congratulations on yet another terrific find! Must be all those waves of good luck I've been sending your way for so long. Glad to see they're paying off! Dan
    14. Hi Richie, An awesome buckle... as is Mikes! Dan
    15. Hi Uwe, Many thanks for all the info. To be honest I didn't jump in and cross check it in the book... guess I was just too excited to pair them up. But now that I've switched those two out I've got it right and we're back on track. Many thanks!!!! Dan
    16. Hi Paul, Okay, the circular part is right about what our old U.S. silver dollars were. Then each of the "star points?" coming off of that are 1/8th of an inch long at it's longest part. So it's a pretty good size. It compares very nicely with a Soviet OGPW. Dan
    17. Hi Joel, Very cool! Too bad he doesn't still have the luger, holster, etc. But do hope you get some nice cases... and they'll definitely mean a great deal coming from him. On the "budget restrictions"... simply become a bottom feeder. I've had to do that throughout much of my time collecting and it's truly amazing the great things one can find on an extremely limited budget. And of course trades are terrific too. But if you're anything like me, going through a long dry spell and not being able to get any new goodies will drive you bonkers! Dan
    18. Hi all, Here's another pic of the first one... a bit younger: And here's another pic for the second one. Dan
