Hallo Jasmor58 Its just not a Royal military medal, apparently it was fastened by a red ribbon, to the necks of a certain brand of wine produced for sale to the general public, It has no connection to the Bavarian Royal Family, apart from the depiction of the King on the front, the rear has details of his birth date and date of death, "N" I believe refers to his Castle at Neuschwanstein near Fussen Bavaria. After you bought the wine the "medal" could be used as a Key ring, etc..etc, it has been causing confusion for years, turning up for sale at Flea-markets, Militaria Shows, and of course on the internet. Pictured coin is one of 5, 1d coins, (1 Penny) dated 1912 - 1913 - 1916 - 1919 - 1920 found under the floorboards of the old Guardroom, in Castlebar Military Barracks, by me during renovation work. Cropped Medal Area: The first cross with white arms possibly a neck order hanging from the collar (?) Swedish Order of the Sword Then a Austrian Order of the Iron Crown. Hallo JimZ, Frustrating to say the least when you have had your eye on a particular item. Under EBAY regulations for a seller to end the sale early he must give good reasons why he did so, Ebay do not like to see sales ended early as they tend to loose their "slice of the pie". A genuine "early ending" can be brought about if the seller is unaware of the true value of his item when placing it on auction or if the item is wrongly identified. If a pattern of "early endings" with regards a particular seller can be noted any ebay member can make a complaint to ebay. In a case such as the above I would recommend saving the particular web pages showing the auction as once the auctions are over the relevant details are quickly flushed from Ebay files. Pure fantasy items, ebay over the last year has been full of notes stamped to SS Units, Para Units, 99.9% chance the note is real and 99.9% chance the stamp is fake. Just another scam to part suckers from there 99.9% real cash. Kevin in Deva.

If, its just nicotine staining (and here I concur with Stogieman, why both sides?) it should be safe to give a wash in a soapy water solution, without doing any damage to the item. It almost looks as if it has been deliberately painted on. Silver items tends to go black with time, and this item shows very little black, which I find strange and it sets my alarm bell ringing. Unless it was washed and more detailed pictures taken I would pass on it. Kevin in Deva.
