Tactical Route Markers

Also home to DRES "Defence Research Establishment Suffield". which as the Experimental Station Suffield, then under the administration of the Canadian Army, commenced operations on June 11, 1941 as a joint British/Canadian biological and chemical defense facility. Renamed Suffield Experimental Station in August 1950, and finally named DRES July 1967. A couple DRES highlights: Cheers Larry -

some medals, opinions please
Laurence Strong replied to dedehansen's topic in Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Working off of the amount of material that is left between the head and wreath, and the style of hinge and catch would lead me to think the GAB is a B. H. Mayer. 1.12.2 Mayer hollow GAB, to be exact, according to Frank Heukemes GAB book. Cheers Larry -

Any way of tell who the maker is for the medal with the swords? It is shaped differently than the normal shaped medal. -
Discussing politics and ketchup
Laurence Strong commented on Brian Wolfe's blog entry in News From the Home Office.
Well Brian, that’s an interesting story, maybe you did miss your calling…. I am going to play devil’s advocate here, however..... Now for the record, I have not been political on GMIC, and yes politics is not the direction of the forum. I am a member of a forum called “Army.ca†(not part of the DND) which has not only a “Canadian Politics†section with over 1600 topics, but also is a forum where politics is discussed naturally in other "current affairs" areas where it might be part of the subject. And yes, the Moderators do have their hands full sometimes, and posts are deleted and members banned – though not often, you really have to push the limits for that to happen. Threads are rarely closed for content, more so for relevance. But then in my view, that’s what a Moderator is supposed to do…. In regards to your premise “Why can’t we discuss politics on the GMIC?†I say to you Sir; “A cow’s husbands manure†I have noticed over time that the real reason we do not discuss politics here is that the Moderator(s) chose to shirk their responsibilities and take the easy way out instead of doing their jobs and “Moderating†i.e. Edit postings when necessary so that they conform to the forum's content guidelines, delete or move single posts or entire threads when necessary and lock or unlock posts as required. The Moderator(s) simply shill the (incorrect) party line “Politics is Prohibited, Verboten, Interdit, Запрещенные…….which if you take the time to read the rules, is not the case! Nowhere in the Forum rules does it say “Politics†is prohibited. It says “Overtly political viewpoints are not considered suitable…†“Such topics may only be discussed on the proviso that they do not intentionally or indirectly cross such boundaries and if inappropriate may be subject to moderation (not necessarily closure)†http://gmic.co.uk/rules2015.pdf Then the Moderator(s) generally tend to close the thread. We wonder why our membership is falling….ask yourself what image do we project when the conversation is flowing along and in pipes the Moderator(s), with what I see as a tone of abject horror, "that we can’t talk politics"…..even if the conversation has not even got to that stage. Who wants to join when you get treated like a five year old…… Most of us are probably in the 50 – 60+ age group – I’m 60 – and I will tell you I don’t like being treated as a five year old, and I, like others here know the bounds of civility and decency and conform to them. So please, in the future let thing flow and if things get out of hand “Moderate†don’t “Dictate†My 2c/euro in a nut shell :cheers; Larry Bold emphasis mine -
Unless I am mistaken the document shown is for the WW1 Victory medal..... Larry

HEADS OF STATE IN 1914
Laurence Strong replied to Mervyn Mitton's topic in The Great War 1914 to 1918
Taken in 1910 at the funeral of King Edward VII, one of the last family pictures before many royal families were deposed in World War I and its aftermath.... Cheers Larry -
The right flank. Their first outing on the table saw them charged from the rear by a squadron of my opponent Cory's Hussars. They turned to face them and routed the Hussar's off the table...Uh-huh gotta love 9 attack die plus a D3 lol Thanks for looking Cheers Larry

The left flank. I was not sure how black horses and black tack would work, however I am happy with the out come. I ended up using Vallejo "German Grey" which is almost black as my base coat, followed by a medium dry brush of Vallejo "German Cam Black Brown". followed by a light dry brushing of black. I used gloss black for the tack as it's finish has a different appearance from matt paint and shows up better after it has been Dullcoted.

Perry Miniatures 28 mm French Cuirassier, I have depicted them riding the French horse Boulonnais of Flanders which enjoyed a great popularity in amongst European heavy cavalry. Napoleon purchased thousands of these horses for his cuirassiers. Napoleon would traveled in a vehicle drawn by six Boulonnais mares. They are based on 40mm x 40mm bases for Black Powder rules.

The shape of the crown on number 8 would lead me to think Belgian or maybe Dutch. Larry

Thanks All I did was paint them white . The last part of my process involves "The Dip"...this adds the shadowing to the feathers. It's basically a wash and a varnish finish, that I use. This helps keeps the paint from flaking off thru excessive handling. http://shop.thearmypainter.com/products.php?ProductGroupId=1 http://www.thearmypainter.com/videogallery.php?videoid=2 The only thing I do different than the tutorial shown is - at $30 a can - I brush it on fairly thick, let it sit a bit, then with a new brush I remove the excess build up. Cheers Larry
