Paul R Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Just an unusual photo showing the SS membership runes being worn by a member of the Water Police. This is such a great photo. I have only seen two of these tunics and none of them had the runes! I hope that this tunic is in someone's closet as it would be heartbreaking to think it one of the thousands collected and destroyed!!
Ernst Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 This is indeed a great photograph of a Revier-Oberwachtmeister der Wasserschutzpolizei.Considering the fact that in 1938 there was a total membership of only 1250 officials (NCO and Officers combined) in the entire Wasserschutzpolizei makes finding any WSP item a rarity.I only know of a handfull of Caps in collections and have only seen pictures of 1 original jacket. Even the loose insignia like sleeve eagles are very hard to find (especially the Officers variety).Even photographs of these guys seem to be rather hard to locate.
Paul R Posted January 11, 2007 Posted January 11, 2007 I bet that the sig runes are even done with gold colored wire... can you imagine?
Ernst Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 The runes would be done in silver Even Polizei Generals wore silver runes.
Gold Party Pin Guy Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Here's what I have assumed is a Wasserpolizei arm eagle in my collection, beautifully executed in silver bullion on a dark navy wool base.
Gold Party Pin Guy Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 As I said, the quality of the embroidery is amazing - I count 4 different kinds of bullion thread.
Sal Williams Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Uhhhhhh.... dumb question , but,... Waterpolice? Best, Sal
Gold Party Pin Guy Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Police marine units responsible for patrolling waterways.By the way, my eagle came out of Austria 30 years ago. If you listen closely you can hear the Blue Danube Waltz playing.
Robin Lumsden Posted February 1, 2007 Author Posted February 1, 2007 Stephen.Water Police eagles were gold on blue.......that one is for an officer of the Fire Police.
Gold Party Pin Guy Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Thank Robin - I ought to use some of those books on my shelf...
Paul R Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 If it is any consolation, the eagle is a beautiful example!
