RAO Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Here is the bar of the Prussian Finance Minister, Prof. Dr. Johannes Popitz. The last three medals, I have replaced, unfortunately they were missing at the bar.Best Regards Mike
Guest Rick Research Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 "unfortunately they were missing at the bar" but understandable. Because Dr. Popitz is not a household word, here is his entry from the 1935 "Wer Ist's?"
Guest Rick Research Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 The soulless bureaucrat is, alas, not simply a convenient stereotype. So it would be tragic for Dr. Popitz to be mis-remembered as one when he was a shining example of the contrary. From Erich Stockhorst's eccentric undated (1966?) "5000 K?pfe: Wer War Was im 3. Reich"--
Guest Rick Research Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 ? the Da Capo Press English translation (1997) of Christian Zentner's and Friedemann Bed?rftig's "The Encyclopedia of the Third Reich"an unlikely looking HERO
Guest Rick Research Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 and their accompanying text:We do not often see such examples of civic courage.
RAO Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 WOW Rick, many thanks for the information, I dont see befor a picture from him. Thanks and greetings, Mike
Ulsterman Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 "hingerichtet" ="hung by the neck unto death"??? :speechless1:
Ulsterman Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Ooohh! ColinRF will like THAT bar! A Valkyrie bar. Splendid!!
Guest Rick Research Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 :Cat-Scratch: Both of those should pop out nicely from wartime Court and State Handbooks... now just to FIND them. The Anhalt "honey Bear" combination is particularly striking. I don't have numbers on Friedrich Knights 1st Class versus 2nd Class peacetime but from 30 years of watching, the lower class was SIGNIFICANTLY rarer. As far as the Ernestine goes, we've got 1/3 of all the peacetime awards done, with the late Erhard Roth's Altenburg Rolls. There were exactly TEN "EH3b" to Anhalters, which suggests the sort of minimal process of elimination that will be needed once ALL the rolls (some bright happy day) are done for Easy Answers. Quite pleasing numbers on the "OK2r"--under 2,000.
Beau Newman Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) "Quite pleasing numbers on the "OK2r"--under 2,000."According to Beyreiss, it was only 309, making it rarer than either the 1st Class or 2nd Class with Crown. All in all, a rather underappreciated award. Edited May 23, 2009 by Beau Newman
Guest Rick Research Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 No not the House Order-- the Friedirich August Cross 2nd Class noncombatant = "OK2r." COMBINED... ahhh, for the Oldenburg Rolls to be transcribed......
ColinRF Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Ooohh! ColinRF will like THAT bar!A Valkyrie bar.Splendid!!
