François SAEZ Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Attached is a color wartime picture showing one wxith a crew member. In my opinion, they are typical from early war (for the use) but I also believe that they are part of the content on the observer bag (have to check)
J Temple-West Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Great shot, FThe attention to detail on flight crew kit never ceases to amaze! I wonder who thought ?Ink freezes at altitude, we must have a heated pen?? I bet it was an Observer.
John Cooper Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 As always an interesting item to share and a beautiful picture as well!
François SAEZ Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 As my German is close to zero, I attach a pic of what (among other things) should be found in the observer bag (as the one in the color picture) maybe someone wil be able to translate if it is mentioned

Sorry for the confusion my friend, it doesn't provide "heat" but "light" when you writte at night or in a dark place of the plane, seems to be powered by 2 small batteries inside the pencil.I agree for an observer
François SAEZ Posted December 21, 2006 Author Posted December 21, 2006 5I have 2 of them but have examined several others and can, a least see 3 different variants
Paul R Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Are there still batteries that can make them work?
Bob Lyons Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 As always Francois, an illuminating (sorry) subject!!Bob
