John R Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 This is a great thread! Attached are images of my Prinz Eugen muetzenband. To me, this is the rarest of the large ship tallies as it is well documented that the day before the ship was turned over to the US Navy, the German Captain issued about 150 of these to the crew for morale reasons. They wore these tallies on the voyage to the US with the mixed US/German crew.Nearly all of these tallies are in cellon, but I have heard that cotton ones also exist. In any case, the sailor wearing the tally and the tally itself.John

Known as the "Raubtier" class they were all named after wild animals/birds. This is the "Albatros". All the early boats were originally painted black, later changed to pale grey.
