oamotme Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Gentlemen,Many thanks - I am happy to share with you my draft - please contact me off line on rawrees@yahoo.co.ukRegards,Owain
Ulsterman Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Thanks owain!there's been an explosion of information in the past month over on another forum. one source there, who seems to be the sort of man who would know says: Fatth medals were issued post ceasefire in 1988 to vets for 8 years service. Medals are in 3 grades. Fatth grade 1 is only to senior commanders, grade 2 to Colonels-Brigadiers and 3rd class to Lt. Cols-Lts..
Ed_Haynes Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I sometimes come to hate the "partitioning" of information between fora. Why doesn't everyone just come over HERE and share their wisdom. But some of the folks out there don't like our gentlemanly rules??
Ulsterman Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 Because its not that kind of forum-it's a veterans forum.
Ed_Haynes Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 In case no one has seen it: Owain Raw-Rees, "Awards of the Islamic Republic of Iran," JOMSA: Journal of the Orders and Medals Society of America 59, 3 (May-June 2008): 14-25.Well done, Owain!!
Ulsterman Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Bravo! I especially liked the part where he thanked us on the forum.
oamotme Posted July 13, 2008 Posted July 13, 2008 Ed, Dave, Jeff & Lukasz,As they say in Arabic "elf shukran" (a thousand thank yous) Your contributuions greatly assisted in allowing me to conclude this article which had been ticking over for quiet some time. Your input was and is greatly appreciated. Whilst I am sure the article is far from definitive at least there is now something in print and in the public domain and will provide a base for more successful reserchers to work upon.Again thank you,Owain
Guest IMHF Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) This is a very helpful scroll of information on the modern Iranian Medals. Najafcoins has a very large collection of older Iranian ODM. I love the hand drawn ribbon chart thank you for sharing.Lorenzo Edited July 29, 2008 by IMHF
oamotme Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Lorenzo,Unfortunately no modern Iranian awards on the Najaf site. They do have some excellent pieces but it is amazing that once purchased at auction in Europe that they appear on the Najaf listings quite often in excess of two to three times the hammer plus premium prices - you will only need to review the prices raised at the June Kunker Auction in Germany and compare to the Najaf prices to appreciate the immediate inflationary possibilities of resale! I do though digress from the matter at hand - modern Iranian awards - thus my apologies.Owain
ilja559 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Medal for veterans and veterans widows. The possible name of medal - "Badge of altruism"

Didier Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 Primary Decoration (مقدماتي) For nearly about 10 years after the Iranian Revolution, there weren't any official civil orders in use; hence none were awarded. This is ironic given the backdrop of Saddam's invasion and the long war that followed it. It was around the early 1990s when the government decided to establish new types of official civil orders and introduced about 12 or 14 types of civil and military orders, each in 3 classes. Unfortunately there is no available official database or photo about them. Didier
Guest IMHF Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 He gave out some very nice award citation document booklets. I bet Iranian medals from the new government are hard to find. Lorenzo
oamotme Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) Dear Ulsterman, The lower award is the Victory Decoration (Neshan Fateh) which comes in three classes, and is awarded to personnel who have had a role in the 'victories' of the Islamic Republic. The medal's design incorporates a date palm and a mosque. The three date palms are symbolic of the Third Anniversary of the Liberation of Khorramshar during the Iran Iraq war, and are also symbolic of bayonets or swords. The mosque is in green - symbolic of Islam. The red is symbolic of the blood of martyrs, and white is for purity. These are also the three colours of the Iranian flag. The award was initially awarded to those liberating Khorramshahr or subsequently in other victories. The liberation of Khorramshar was on 24 May 1982, thus the institution of this award would appear to date from this period. Kind regards, Owain Ulsterman, The second image is of, I believe, a Bravery Medal or Order of Courage - but no other details. Regards, Owain Dear Ulsterman, The ribbons in the first image are, provisionally: 1st Row - Order of Merit (see attached image) & Order of Sacrifice. 2nd Row- Order of Sport, Order (Ribbon) of Strategic Science & Order (Ribbon) of General Staff College. 3rd Row - Ribbons of Post Graduate, Preliminary Studies & Officer College. I am unsure as to whether the ribbons representing academic advancement are representative of actual medals. Kind regards, Owain Edited February 10, 2017 by oamotme Add image
Ulsterman Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) Hi Owain! many thanks! Yup, as Ed said above-medal of courage-easy to spot because of the " bronze star' like ribbon. Here is an edited photo of the January medal award ceremony following the Iranian-US negotiations. Edited February 10, 2017 by Ulsterman
heusy68 Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Hello Gentlemen, Here is another photo of the Ability Award, but I do not know much about. Emmanuel And another Awards, that I believe is some sort of Bravery Award. And the 3rd one is ....I do not know, even no reference from ribbon. All these 3 Awards came from Ernst Blass Collection.
