Ed_Haynes
OK, this can get complex. I'd like to avoid, for a while, the Nishan Iftikar (and predecessors and successors). OK?M?daille militaire / Military Medal The Tunisian analogue to the French M?daille militaire.Established: Law No. ??? of ??? (8 December 1955) and Law No. 58-129 of 9 Djoumada I 1378 (21 November 1958).Obverse: Circular silver, with wreath-like edges. In an Arabesque design in the center, the Tunisian coat of arms. Below, the Arabic legend. Suspended by an elaborate suspender incorporating symbols of the branches of service.Reverse: Within an Arabnesque design, an Arabic legend.Ribbon: Pale green with a wide red stripe in the center and thin red stripes toward each edge.
Sivart
How do you tell the Tunisian Order of the Republic and the Order of National Merit apart? Is it simply based on the piece that connects the ribbon to the medal? I recently purchased this medal and thought that it was the Order of the Republic, but after I saw your post on OMSA, I am unsure which medal I have. I will post pics in the next few days, but any info would be welcome. Thanks!

Sivart
Reverse - The ribbon has a hole in it where the vendor had it hanging on a board by a safety pin, but the medal itself looks to be in very good condition. I dont know anything about this medal, any info would be appreciated.

I dont know anything about this medal, any info would be appreciated. This is a 2nd type (1967 to present) Order of the Republic (of Tunisia) knight badge. The Order was founded in 1959. A mid-1970s "Medal Collector" article contains full information on award criteria and design change. Sorry cannot lay my hands on the exact MC issue now. Insignia is/was made by Bertrand of Paris. By Order of National Merit you may mean the Order of Independence--successor to the Nichan Iftikhar and very similar in design.

IVB
Thank you, Dragomir! Any info about this order? Is it Tunisian?
Ed_Haynes
Yes, Tunisian. It is shown in the Burke's Monster Book (which I far too rarely consult since it requires getting a fork-lift to take off the shelf). Vol 2, pp. 1671-73.The Order of 7 November 1987 is a five-class order created 2 July 1988. The president is ex officio grand master of the order.
