Tom Y Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 and Bavariasided with Austria against Prussia.
Tom Y Posted April 17, 2007 Author Posted April 17, 2007 (edited) In seven weeks it was all over and the errant children were welcomed, willing or not, into the fold to fight France four years later.Notice the unusual attachment system. The reversed hooks were apparently meant to slip into horizontal loops or an Austrian style cord. Edited April 17, 2007 by Tom Y
Komtur Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 ... unfortunately we will never know this late friend, because there is no name engraved on the Langensalza medal (as it usualy is).Greetings, Komtur.
Wild Card Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Hi Tom Y,A nice presentation. I think that we can include W?rttemberg
Wild Card Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Speaking of Baden, here?s a fellow who easily made the switch as evidenced by his Baden medal.
Tom Y Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 I plumb forgot about this one Some day I've just gotto get organized.
David M Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 The only state which did not award 1866 medals was Kurhessen.......I guess Friedrich Wilhelm was really disappointed
saschaw Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Speaking of Baden, here?s a fellow who easily made the switch as evidenced by his Baden medal.Might you be so gentle to show to whole bar? I can hardly remember to have ever seen a Baden Long Service cross ...

buellmeister Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Guys, Out of curiousity, what would be the value of a Nassau medal? Only 5,000 or so were issued.Regards,Joel
Tom Y Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Guys, Out of curiousity, what would be the value of a Nassau medal? Only 5,000 or so were issued.Regards,JoelI paid $140 for it. Dunno whether that's a good price or not.
HeikoGrusdat Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 140$ is ok, normally in germany 2 place medal bars with Nassau on it are going for 90-120 Euro....
Wild Card Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Might you be so gentle to show to whole bar? I can hardly remember to have ever seen a Baden Long Service cross ... Gladly.

Stogieman Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 A great little thread Gentlemen! Sometimes, we tend to overlook the pre-WW1 campaigns and wars. So many scarce items from China and before. Thanks!
saschaw Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Wild Card, thanks a lot. Though small, this is one of the Baden bars I like best of ALL I've ever seen - and believe me, I've seen many. Love those Officer long service awards. He must have gotten it pre1871 as a military. Later those were only awarded to "Gendarmerie", whrereas Baden officers got the Prussian long service crosses.
Tom Y Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 (edited) Gro?herzog LudwigII von Hessen established this one in 1840 for veterans of the Napoleonic Campaigns. It was issued again for the 1848/49 unpleasantnesses, and finally for 1866, never to be used again.Made of bronze from old Hessian cannon. Edited April 23, 2007 by Tom Y
Guest Rick Research Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 This W?rttemberger must have held a grudge
