Deruelle
Hi everybody, I have received today several photos. Have a look. The first one is an Baden Dragon officer from DR Nr. 21 (if my eyes is ok). I have two possibilities with name : Leutnant Kurt H?rning and Leutnant Hermann Hummel. It's not sure. The Baden specialist can help me.

Ulsterman
nice Saxon there- but do my eyes deceive me in #3/4? Is that a mere Oberlt. with a leaf device upon his OZL?
Jacky
Well that would then mean that he was "over-decorated"?Or..... That anomalies sometimes happen and the previous "rank-naming based on the decorations" isn't that correct.....?
Dave Danner
Well that would then mean that he was "over-decorated"?Or..... That anomalies sometimes happen and the previous "rank-naming based on the decorations" isn't that correct.....?Off the top of my head (and a quick scan through the Roth book), I only know of two Leutnante with the Oakleaves. Deruelle
Hi, For the second Baden officer, for me it is a captain. I scan the shoulderboards at 500% and we can see the two tips .RegardsChristophe
Ulsterman
Ah- I thought I saw only one, but the oak leaves i thought went to Majors and above?
Guest Rick Research
Knight 2nd with Oakleaves went to Captains.Knight 1st with Oakleaves went to Lieutenant Colonels.Despite the large numbers of officers who you'd THINK would have received "oakleaves only" as a second award after being promoted TO Captain and TO Lieutenant Colonel... none ever did. ZERO. "One per customer."Jacky-- the Z?hringen Lion WW1 award rolls have been published. I've got copies-- horrid, demonically awful copies--of the WW1 rolls (which extend the last 6 months of the war that haven't been published)-- everything is accounted for. Though the Z?hringen Lion rolls are SO horrible that I shall be doing the nutzoid Waldeck pre-war rolls before I drop into the bottomlessss pit of 1914-18 Z?hringens. Microscopic, blotchy, wicked Z?hringens.... The only "surprises" come for RESERVISTS. There are Captains dR/dL with Knights 1st Class with Oakleaves and Swords because they already HELD a Knight 1st with Oakleaves in their pre-war civilian status. No "downgrading" was allowed, either apparently. Things were completely different in 1870, but we're talking about 1914-18 here.
saschaw
Despite the large numbers of officers who you'd THINK would have received "oakleaves only" as a second award after being promoted TO Captain and TO Lieutenant Colonel... none ever did. ZERO.BUT some were awarded 3bXEL and had to give back their 3bX! Strange thing, as they used to award oakleaves in addition, but this may not have been "up to date" in early 20th century? It seems to have been very common at least in early 19th century, I'd guess ... BTW, H. G?ring did promote his 3bX to a 3bXEl ...

Guest Rick Research
Right, VERY common in the 1800s. Not in WW1.G?ring got caught wearing oakleaves he was NOT entitled to (What MATTERED after a PLM? ) and.. quierly ceased doing so.
