Lapa
Any idea what the ribbon under the Red Star is? Bryan,That is the original Navy Guards badge; it is pretty rare as it was used only for a couple of years before they swiched to the regular oval type. This guy has a nice set of awards, with both the Defense of Odessa and Defense of Sevastopol medals Marc Edited December 27, 2007 by Lapa
Guest Rick Research
Yes-- ending with the Caucasus so this looks like a wartime photo. He was a survivor, from this combination, of the "Soviet Dunkirk," evacuated from Sevastapol after its heroic, doomed defense. What is this Petty Officer's photo in? Christophe
Hi Marc,It was displayed in a "private" exhibition of the Russian Navy, that was held in St Petersburg, two year ago, on the occasion of a Naval Show. I could only guess it is from the Central Naval Museum, but real chances are it is from the collection of one of those hundreds of "private" museums that each industry, military administration... owns.As already said, nice to se you here, BTW.Cheers.Ch. speedytop
Hi Christophe, here are some old men , and here are some very nice pieces in my collection, worldwide.Yes, that is mine. But the most interesting piece I have from the CCCP is a Lenin order type 3, variant 1 with abraded serial number.Kind RegardsUwe
Lapa
Hi,the picture in Post 4 is very small, and I cannot identify the colours. Is this such a bar, or is it from another period?RegardsUweUwe,The ribbon is definitely the right one. As to the suspension itself, I have some serious doubts, as yours seem to be cast. To make the Navy Guard badge, the Mint used suspensions for the Order of Nevsky, which were struck. If you could post some higher resolution, individual scans of your badge, it would be great.Marc

Wild Card
Hello Lapa,I have enlarged the photos (I use a camera, not a scanner) and Photoshopped them to highlight the frame and screw plate, so the colors in the ribbon are a bit off shade. I hope that this is what you are looking for. If you need more, let me know and I will see what I can do - might take a couple of days as shortly I?ll be away from my computer for a time.Best wishes,Wild Card
