I had this posted in the uniforms section, and Paul suggested I might get additional feedback if I posted it here. This example is not like any "big A" Assmann eagle I've seen - with the swaz connected by a fragile length of leg. This particular piece has already had the leg bent/cracked slightly. This is not my eagle, and these are the only photos I have.

Any opinions - good/bad - on this one?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Scott.

Most (I include myself) consider these aluminium large ?A? eagles to be post-war produced.

If we look at the comparison of the original aluminium ?DRGM? marked badge (top) and the later ?A? marked example in zinc (middle) we see that the same obverse die was used for both, showing that the argument for there being a second set of dies produced by ?Assmann? for the aluminium large ?A? type (bottom) is a non-starter.

One thing you will never see on original metal breast eagles (and pith helmet eagles, as well, I believe) is the swastika attached to the body of the eagle by only the leg. This is much too fragile, and prone to bending or breaking off.
