pinpon590 Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) Hello !Does someone know the creation's date of the prussia merit cross (gold or silver) :OEK N.1849 to 1853, "Preussen Verdienstkreuz in Gold/in Silber"I only found that it has been created in 1912, but I don't have found the exact date... Thank you gentlemens ! Edited February 25, 2008 by pinpon590
Guest Rick Research Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 27 January (the Kaiser's birthday) 1912. These are VERY hard to find, but since they had only existed for one year when the final published Prussian Orders List (ended January 1913) came out, no idea of total numbers ever awarded. "Not many" about sums it up.
pinpon590 Posted February 25, 2008 Author Posted February 25, 2008 (edited) Thank you for your help !I possess a silver merit cross and a gold merit cross (the 2 crosses are without crown)...The silver cross is stamped "938 H" on the medallion's border, between the left and the bottom arms. So, a 1912-1917 model, in silver, according to J. Nimmergut OEK.The gold cross isn't stamped. (Weight : 11,7 g. Golden war metal or bronze ? I don't know...)Does someone have any (good) illustration of the cross with crown ?Thank you again !Jean-Baptiste Edited February 25, 2008 by pinpon590

Wild Card Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Hello pinpon590,Thank you for starting this thread on a generally overlooked and certainly under appreciated award. We seem to be missing a silver cross with crown, so...
Josef Rietveld Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 We are missing the box and the document aswell.haynau
Komtur Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 To make this complete, here is the letter, sended together with the decoration and the document to the decorated person:
Komtur Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 In Orden und Ehrenzeichen 7/2001 S. 14ff Sauerwald shows the number of awarded silver merit crosses of some month. On the base of these data you can estimate a number of roughly 8000 awards. With regards, Komtur.
Guest Rick Research Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 Ah, what a magnificent lapel bow on the card with the tiny lapel ribbon!!!
RAO Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 By the way, the silver Distinguished Service Cross became predominantly at railroadmen out of service position (a.D.) assigned. Greeting Mike
