Guest Darrell Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 (edited) I'm sure the story has been told numerous times, but I've never really heard the exact details. Since I own one, does anyone have some brief information like:1. Where exactly was the "horde" dicovered in Russia?2. Where there any other items with the EKs?Even a link to the discussion or the discovery would be welcome. Thanks. Edited September 30, 2005 by Darrell
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Hi,you are talking about the famous "26ers".I doubt anyonehas a problem with them these days.
Christophe Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 I'm sure the story has been told numerous times (...).I'm sure of this.... but, as a new comer in the world of the Iron Crosses, I don't know it !!Could someone elaborate about this story ? I will try to do my own research... but meanwhile...Many thanks in advance.Cheers.Ch.

Some top layers had a bit of damage to the boxes, the lower layers were virgin.... and at the time everyone I knew in germany thought the man was crazy for the high price he was asking for them (Man!!)... little did we know...... what crazy prices would be like nowdays !!!

Did he buy the whole works? Or were some sold by others? Edited October 2, 2005 by Darrell
Laurence Strong Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 As I would like to own one of those little beauties, wouldn't mind hearing the story myself.

Christophe Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Hi,you are talking about the famous "26ers".I doubt anyonehas a problem with them these days.Chris,What do you mean exactly ? Is 26 the maker mark (what I understand) ?And what were the "pbs" ?Many thanks in advance.Ch.
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Hi,26 was the makers mark. Weitze sold many wholesale to other dealers and to collectors. They were nice indeed, and are all out in circulation now... to late to cherry pick now.
Christophe Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Thanks Chris.Too late on this one... I'm afraid!! Cheers.Ch.
Guest Darrell Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 Darrell,Could you post it ?Many thanks in advance.Ch.Hi Ch,You can see it here:http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=689
Paul R Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 That set looked as if it were made last week!!I bet an EK1 set like that would go for close to 700 dollars these days!Best regardsPaul
Laurence Strong Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 I think that's about the going price for one of them. Now someone prove me wrong.
Gordon Williamson Posted October 2, 2005 Posted October 2, 2005 I think that's about the going price for one of them. Now someone prove me wrong. I just moved a minty frosty one from the "Russian" hoard for significantly lower value than that, and paid more for an equivalent Steinhauer. I suppose it depends on which you consider the more desirable..
