Hauptmann
Dear Dan,congratulations to your victory #5 and for achieving the ranks of the "honourable answerers" Best regards ChristianDear Christian,Many thanks my friend. As far as my next question... although I've been off for two days I've still not had much time or brain power to come up with something I feel is really good. I have one in reserve but fear it may be too easy. So the question for now is should I hold off a few more days and do it right or should I go ahead with this one and hope for the best? Let me know and I'll go from there. Thanks! Dan

Hauptmann
Hi all,Okay, the concensus seems to be to go with the one I have. Again please don't judge me on this one as at least I feel someone is going to nail this right off the bat. But, here goes, my holiday gift to one and all: What am I?Who did I belong to?Why was my owner famous?Name some awards my owner earned.I hope it's not super, super simple... but I do hope it is easy enough to give everyone a bit of a break during the holidays.Good luck to all! Christian Zulus
Dear Jim,congratulations to your victory #12 In my opinion, Pokryshkin had been by far the greatest tactical genius in fighter-aviation during WW II .He had been the first hero to get a HSU #3 (s/n. 1) - as early, as the 19th of august 1944.He flew most of his GPW-career a US-made midengined "Air-Cobra".I am happy, to have obtained years ago the German edition of Pokryshkin's memoirs - excellent book .Here two photographs of Col. & Marshal Pokryshkin:Best regards Christian
Hauptmann
Hi Jim,You are indeed the winner! Sorry for the delay but I've been at work on a closing shift and had court work before that. Just got back in and this is the first chance I've had to get on and confirm this. So now it's over to you for the next question. http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/mig3/pokryshkin.htmlDan
JimZ
Thanks for your congratulations. That kill board is indeed almost one of a kind!----Christophe,I am away in Russia as of the 27th till the 10th January. I can offer you the following options:a) give you guys a break till the 10th when I will be honoured to post the first question on the new Soviet Quiz threadfor 2008;b) put forward another question which I hope wil be answered by the 26th (and if not I will pass on the solution to another member); orc) pass on the question to someone else. Its entirely up to you which alernative to go for and although I would go for A) giving everyone time to concentrate on family matters, Christmas and holidays, as well as taking time to relax before coming back to the quiz. Let me know what you prefer.Jim Edited December 21, 2007 by JimZ

Christophe
Hi Jim and all,I'm OK with the A option. This will give us a break!!! It will give me the opportunity to "close" the present Quiz, and open the new 2008 one, where Jim will be the first one to post a question. Great!!! Cheers.Ch. JimZ
Ok by me. I'll be in Russia till the 10th January so assuming that I manage to get away from my obligations there, and indulge in the hobby, I'll try to come back with a question or two that are hopefully based on something new that I may learnt. All the best and Christophe.... who would have ever thought how this thread would have taken off and is indeed, now orbiting. Well done, not only for its success but also for the fact that it makes us research and learn things that would have otherwise remained unknown to us.Jim

Ed_Haynes
Absolutely right, Jim (and enjoy your trip!). We need to pause at the end of the year and at the end of this generation of the quiz to remind ourseleves how much we have learned thanks to our comrades here. Whether we answer right or not (or, like me, often don't even HAVE A CLUE, or a guess), we always learn. Thanks, Christophe and all!And . . .
