Not an interesting article... but here's the translation:

(I hope my english was not too poor...)

"Ernő Nagy, awardee of 'Order for the Socialist Homeland', who had been a member of the (Hungarian Socialist Workers') Party since 1928, died at the age of 74. The cremation and the Memorial event afterwards will take place in the Pesterzs?bet Cemetery on the 20th of September at 3pm. - XX. District Committee of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party"

    Ed,

I did a couple of quick searches on the name but nothing useful came up. Both names are much too common here in Hungary to have hoped for much without more information and no date on the newspaper clipping.

A quick look at the Blue Bible seems to indicate that the award itself was introduced by the Presidents Council order #29 in 1966. It was first awarded on May 1, 1967 and a total of 9516 were awarded. Perhaps Charles can add some more.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Yes - this one was one of the more rare to be awarded. It was primarily an award for those who had remained faithful to the cause of the Hungarian Communist Party (Later the Hungarian Workers Party) durung the years of trubulation in WW2, the "White Terror", etc... it guaranteed a massive bonus to ones pension along with a guarantee of housing and other benfits
