Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 OK, who can tell me what Imperial German State these cases are from??
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 You get only one clue! They're all from the same state!
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Your final clue............... good luck!!
CRBeery Posted November 17, 2005 Posted November 17, 2005 I guess Braunschweig. Does case #2 have a little silver cross in it?
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Well, Chet wins the cookie with the first guess! Brunswick is correct and every single grade of the House Order of Henry The Lion bears this simple crown and nothing else! From the Merit Medals Right up through the Grand Cross!
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Here's another, this one with the jeweler's shipping box.
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Here's the First Class Cross in real gold & enamel
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 .......... and finally, that last case I posted... the long one? It had one of these inside!
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Whoops! Almost forgot the Second Class Cross in Silver. Guess what? In Brunswick, this cross in silver usually left the jeweler bearing a Crescent Moon, a Crown and an "800" stamped in the back!!
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 Think I'm kidding? Think again! So yet again, another case where Imperial Decree was adhered to to counter the hundreds of different silver pieces that were not marked! It doesn't get much smaller than this one!
Paul R Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 That House Order is beautiful! That House Order of Henry the Lion(yes, I am learning...) is the most eye catching German medal I have ever seen. How many were known to be issued?Paul
Deruelle Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Paul, Please find a copy of the Reckewell's book about the Brunswick orders and medalsRegardsChristophe
Stogieman Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 Hi Christophe, thanks for bringing this forward for us to reference!
Wild Card Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Gentlemen,To continue on the theme, may I present
Paul R Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Beautiful awards! I am honestly completely stumped... The last one most resembles the Lippe Honor Cross 3rd class. Of course, that is not what it is, but am I at least in the right area?Paul

Paul R Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I apologize for breaking your thread while you were posting...I was referring to number 16. Paul(please be gentle as Imperial is new to me!)
Wild Card Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Hi Paul,#16 is a first class merit cross to the Brunswick House Order of Henry the Lion. It is gold; the second class cross (post #10) is silver. Both were awarded, with swords, for military merit. I will try to post a picture that will give you a better view.Best wishes,Wild Card
Wild Card Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Back to post #18, who's in there? A Braunschweiger?
Stogieman Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Hi Chris, welcome back from your trip! Awesome display of Brunswick pieces..., I like the earlier styled case to the Honor Cross. They did seem to have an affinity for odd style/opening cases ;>)Now Post #18: Bavarian.......................... Right?
