Bob Lyons Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Hi All, Some photos of a Luftwaffe drum skirt, with the yellow backing for flight/para units. A fairly hefty piece, being over 6 foot long, but the eagle is a rather incredible piece of work, and quite impressive I think, Some photos..... Bob
Bob Lyons Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Hope the photos are of some interest, Best wishes Bob
J Temple-West Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 What a superp piece, Bob. As you say...Exquisite embroidery on these. where on earth did you find it?
Brian Wolfe Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Hello Bob, This is a beautiful piece of TR memorabilia. I played drums in a marching bad as a Boy Scout but of course we didn't have such fine drum skirts. Thanks for posting it. Regards Brian
Bob Lyons Posted January 16, 2010 Author Posted January 16, 2010 Thanks Gents, John I did a post-Christmas trade with Bill Shea (Ruptured Duck) in the US, which is where the skirt came from, also picked up a nice trumpet banner from the town of 'Werl' at the same time, I can post some shots of the trumpet banner too, if there is some interest, here is a sneak preview..... Bob
Bob Lyons Posted January 16, 2010 Author Posted January 16, 2010 And another, any info on the town of Werl would be greatly appreciated, especially the Luftwaffe units/involvement there..... Thanks Bob
Harrier Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Bob, I know it must be very hard on you to have all that old stuff cluttering up your house - why don't you just send it to me? I'm sure you'd feel better not having to look at it! Best, Harrier
Paul R Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Wow Bob, those are some amazing items. I love the embroidery work on the drum skirt! Is it made of a heavy material?
Bob Lyons Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Glad you liked the photos, Harrier, I can still have a few beers over here for you mate ! Paul, the skirt is fairly heavy, it is just a tad over 6 foot long, and has a blue grey light wool backing right across the back of it. I am still playing about with ways to display it, I will eventually be happy with where it is, but for now, it has changed spots about a dozen times ! Bob
