Bob Hunter Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 (edited) The word rare is becoming so overworked in our hobby as to be meaningless. Soooooooo, let's say that a long service medal with a bronze RAD device is unusual and two long service medals with bronze and silver RAD devices are damned unusual... Deruelle Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 . A great add to your collection Bob, very niceChristophe
Gerd Becker Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Bob,in my humble opinion, these RAD- Long service devices ARE RARE Nice one Gerd
Nick Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 in my humble opinion, these RAD- Long service devices ARE RARE I quite agree, a lovely ribbon bar, I would like the mounted group to go with it.I prefer to use the word scarce........
Gordon Williamson Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Absolutely right. Knight's Crosses of the Iron Cross are invariably described as "rare" yet you can go to any one of a dozen or so dealer sites and find not just one each, but often several , for sale on a regular basis.A case of confusing rarity and desirability. They may be desirable to many people, but they are not that rare. The ribbon bar here is probably statistically much rarer than an RK.
Guest Rick Research Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 Drat! Your double ping pong paddles is NICER than mine-- can I use yours on the Renewed Project, then? But I have the FULL size anyway. [attachmentid=23130] It is a mystery to me why these useful and SPECIFIC 1940 devices were done away with. Because that leads to THIS sort of thing:[attachmentid=23131]It was only when Oberarbeitsf?hrer Baron Rechenberg's THREE ribbon bars, all sold separately over time, were reunited by moi that it even IS possible to identify the generic blue ribbons as R.A.D. because 1st none, then one, then two: and there were no other Third Reich long services wearable this way "plain." Tammmy, Tammmy, Tammy's in love....
Bob Hunter Posted January 16, 2006 Author Posted January 16, 2006 (edited) Lovely medal bar, Richard! Even lovelier ribbon bars especially with those perfectly wretched little orange ribbons on the end that only you are ordained by the Almighty to own. ...and in all 'seriousity' what you have done there is truly a once in a lifetime achievement. Nice. OBTW use the picture(s) as you wish with your renewed project. Standard industry practice applies. I expect 10% of the residuals. Would you like a retake so it's a little less crooked??? My scanner lid keeps knocking things out of alignment! Edited January 16, 2006 by Bob Hunter
Guest Rick Research Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 You mean like THIS? [attachmentid=23134] (Don't believe what Evil Ricky says about my Scientific Methods. ) Yes yes, 10% of 0... allll yours! I don't close the scanner lid-- I waft a piece of white paper over the top as light colored backing because Darkness Is Not Your KB Size Friend For Background.
Bob Hunter Posted January 16, 2006 Author Posted January 16, 2006 Hey! If I had a heritage of witchcraft behind me I could do the same thing! Most people who see that picture would probably think its done with clever software but we know the truth, don't we? And what about the awesome power of the pentangle and your covenant with the lords of the lower darkness...?
Bob Hunter Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 and here is my only single...in bronze.
Stogieman Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 This "unusual" RAD set in silver & bronze is only the second I have ever seen and only the third that I know of in collections. Since the devices were only allowed (what was it Rick, 1941??) they are very, very difficult to find!
Bob Hunter Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 I think I will start a thread on unusual ribbon bar devices and see how it goes. There are many unusual examples of crowns, crown & swords, swords, etc. Perhaps we could catalog a few of them. Since most of those devices are found in the imperial (present topic excepted) I will begin there.
Guest Rick Research Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Just make them x500% at 96dpi, cropped and they will fit quite icely in with the "catalog" of devices that goes with the Ribbon Bar Opus.
Bob Hunter Posted January 18, 2006 Author Posted January 18, 2006 (edited) Now you tell me! ...and to make matters worse I have no visibility of the dpi on my feeble scanner...maybe I need an Epson like yours... Edited January 18, 2006 by Bob Hunter
Guest Rick Research Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 EVERYBODY needs an Epson like mine.
Daniel Krause Posted March 4, 2006 Posted March 4, 2006 now we have seen some boys in RAD,what about a girl??
Deruelle Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Hi Daniel, It's the first time for me to see such device on your post #18 Very very nice ribbon bar.RegardsChristophe
