Chris Boonzaier Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 There are some that are returned to the state, on the death of the recipient or when a higher grade is awarded....has anyone ever heard of this when someone has been awarded a higher grade of wound badge ???
Stogieman Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Hi Chris. Never heard that one. You'll frequently find WW1 groups with multiple WB's in different grades.

Medals and most decorations are personal awards and belong to the individual for deeds done. Orders are a bit different. I think because some of them are so intricate and are sometimes encrusted with Jewels that a state is afraid of them ending up in pawn shops and melted down.

Named medals are usually yours to keep./Mike

Chris Boonzaier Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 I ask because I have or saw (cannot remember, have to look) a wound badge doc with a small line printed at the bottom saying "In case of a higher award this badge must be returned"I found it very unusual.
Stogieman Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Go-on. You're yanking our legs?! Printed on the document??!
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 24, 2006 Author Posted January 24, 2006 Yup,small in the bottom right hand corner. But as the doc was printed by the unit in question, it may be specific to that unit.I musgt look see if I can find it...
Stogieman Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 Please! I would very much like to see that one! In all my years the absolute only time I've ever heard that.

Any new insights on this one? I have to agree to Stogieman, that I have never heard of it!
