Hauptmann Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hi all. This is one piece from a grouping that Nick's (Obergefreiter) brother in law got from a WW2 veteran who brought them all back. He sent the collection to Nick for ID, valuation and hopefully sale. Nick and I met over in Devils Lake at the coffee house again last week... I took my Epson and did scans of just about everything in the collection save a bit of documentation (not award docs) which he'll be getting scanned back at his library. I have to state right off, that neither Nick nor I feel any of this grouping is bad. But we wanted to post them just to get more opinions to make sure. Also any help with valuations would be deeply appreciated as neither of us tend to go to shows and such and are therefore fairly out of the loop on pricing, other than what we see on Ebay or dealers listings, the latter of which tend to be rather high. In the meantime, I'm going to start posting these and wanted to start out with this one... an Anti Partisan Badge. Due to these being so rare and so heavily faked this is one of two in the collection we want to be very sure on. As you'll see, it is not in the best shape. It has two cracks which I've marked and will show after the initial pics. Our theory is that the vet may have ripped it off a tunic, perhaps from a body, hence the cracks as well as lost of the hinge/pin. Being made of zink it's absorbed it's finish although traces remain. After close examination in different lighting with a loup, I strongly feel it was a gold, but you'd have to see it in person as that doesn't show up well on the scans.
Hauptmann Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 Anyhow, there it is. Hoping to get some good opinions on this and again a valuation would help, especially as it is such a rare badge and then the condition complicates things still further. We know it's not worth what one if much better condition would run, but assuming it's still worth a pretty penny, again assuming we're correct and it's a good one. Many thanks! Dan
Obergefreiter Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 NO opinions at all? Someone must have one.
