Chris Boonzaier Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I am picking up a Bavarian dark Blue Leutnant Litewka next month. My understanding... these were worn up until 1916? If I was to display it... what would I need to complete it? Lets say a Leutnant on leave, behind the front, going courting, at the Hoffbrauhaus, walking his dog in January 1916... I hean head gear, sword, belt, probable awards etc. etc... Thanks Chris
Chip Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 That's a coincidence. The Kaiser's Bunker (Tony) just got one too, but an Offizierstellvertreter. I guess they bent the rules a bit and let this rank wear them too. Supposedly, the unique Bavarian Litewka was replaced in 1916 with the introduction (to the Bavarians) of the Kleiner Rock, which then became the universal Litewka for officers. My guess is that they could wear any of the other pieces of clothing that they normally wore for undress, so, gray trousers, feldgrau visored cap, shoes rather than boots and a sword are possible. Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 That sounds good, I have a Feldgraue Visor, if thats OK then I can hold of on running out and looking for a Blue one? Best Chris P.S. Does Tony have his up on the site?
Chip Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 No, he hasn't done the update yet, but here you go..... (private showing, keep it quiet). http://www.kaisersbunker.com/dunkelblau/tunics/dbt49.htm Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 Did they always have the collar patch? Thje one I am buying has none, but it seems an odd thing to remove? Or they removed them during the war to fit the same style as the Feldgrau tunics being worn? Best Chris
ccj Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Most I've seen have no collar patches. Send it to me and I've look it over for a while.
ccj Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 (edited) From the book by Verlag. We all know the book because its a super source for beautiful uniforms and headgear. The general is wearing this tunic with two pockets so I' sure lots a variants exist. One would assume members would have a plethora of photographs to share. Edited December 21, 2012 by ccj
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 "Soon baby, soon"... As soon as it arrives :-)
ccj Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 No, he hasn't done the update yet, but here you go..... (private showing, keep it quiet). http://www.kaisersbunker.com/dunkelblau/tunics/dbt49.htm Chip That a real beauty.
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 OK, here is the piece.... I am really happy with it.... but maybe happier than that!
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 15, 2013 Author Posted January 15, 2013 Now... I dont want to put thoughts in anyones head.... but what DO you see here for a missing element....
Trooper_D Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Am I seeing the shadow of a crown? And, perhaps, something underneath it? I am not sure what the significance of that, in Imperial German terms, is, though.
ccj Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Here's Graf von Bothmer and Ritter von Hemmer in 1917. Bothmer is wearing a Litewka ( field gray or blue) and Hemmer is wearing a 1916 bluse. So, the Litewka was most likely worn until war's end. (Hemmer awarded PlM 1917)
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 It seems to be a smaller crown than the Leib Regt crown, and seems to have had something underneath, removed when the pip was added?
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 16, 2013 Author Posted January 16, 2013 Bang!! Chip has it here.... a smaller crown with a backward 2 of sorts.... this was originally a 10 b.I.R. man.... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/34486-the-officers-shoulder-board-thread/
Chris Liontas Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Nice Chris!!! Beautiful uniform!! I didnt realize this style was worn until the end of the war. News to me.
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 13, 2015 Author Posted October 13, 2015 Nice Chris!!! Beautiful uniform!! I didnt realize this style was worn until the end of the war. News to me.I wonder if there were any uniform items that they simply stopped wearing during the war, as opposed to wearing them out?
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 30, 2022 Author Posted August 30, 2022 I think I have them nailed... Blue, Blue without brest pocket and Fieldgrey
