Chris Boonzaier Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 So... I am on the edge of my seat... What do you guys think this book will bring? I have high hopes. I am not sure how much 1813, 1870 or 1914 there is, but i am hoping for a good 1914 bit... Has anyone any info further than the flyer?? best Chris
Nick Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Is it going to be available in English ? I take it is going to be released imminently ?
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Hi, in about 2 weeks... apparently there will be an english version...
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 19, 2013 Author Posted February 19, 2013 Hi, 2 volumes, 850 pages, EUR149... price seems ok for the 6 KG it apparently weighs... It promises to be ground breaking...
OTTER76 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Here you have a flyer and presentation info... Auf deutsch. http://www.bayerisches-armeemuseum.de/de/gebaeude/33-veranstaltungen/veranstaltungen/492-2013-buchvorstellung-ek-ausfuehrlich.html Cheers.
Streptile Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Wonder if it will be available at the SOS. Anyone know?
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 I think it comes out after the SOS, will be premiered at a German show.
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Does anyone know if this will be availible at the show in German on Friday? Ebernhahn I think? Will anyone be there?
Marcin L Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Does anyone have one already? Here are some pictures: http://www.militaria.at/Book.aspx?book=1008000&Language=en Regards, Marcin
Laurence Strong Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 As a point of curiosity what can be written in a new book that has not been covered all ready in the plethora of EK books available? Larry
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 Each one is a step forward.. Includes more and new "stuff" and information.... The older books are really essential works as they set the foundations... but if you use the Bowen book as example, ground breaking and fantastic as it was for its time... the Wernitz book leaves Bowen behind, a collectors item, but maybe no longer "needed" as far as EK research goes. That is absolutely not a negative reflection on Bowen... he was the Wright Brothers of his time... Wernitz may be the F-18 Fighter plane... without the Wright Brothers there would not have been a F-18... Best Chris
Schwyz Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 I couldn't agree more with Chris's point of view. I believe if you are truly interested in and committed to research, each new effort advances the knowledge base just a little further and therefore this new work will in all probability be 'required' reading. Gary
OTTER76 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Could not help it, and just ordered one... Will be right next to Previteras. Cant wait to read them.
Chris Liontas Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 I saw this today looking for Verlag Militaria's book on Freddrick the Great. I dont collect the IC anymore, but I am ordering one. This book looks to be fantastic, and if it is anything like the other Verlag books I have, it will not dissapoint. The photos and the information on contractors/subcontractors will be amazing to have. Whoever gets it first needs to post their opinions!!
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 24, 2013 Author Posted March 24, 2013 Any sightings of the book ??? Thoughts??
Schwyz Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 Have seen the English version listed on eBay for 149,90 Euro + shipping of course, but have not ordered my copy yet.
Motorhead Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 They had it in their hands....Part one is full with informations about the historical roots of the iron cross-lot of writing about the German history.part two is the so called "typology".Well-I had high expectations about the 1914 Part-and in the end I'm disappointed .For me it seems they had never taken part in any forums, talked never with collectors from the dark side... Micha
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 I have arranged one, but not gotten one yet... I think most are somewhere in the mail and few people actually have it yet
OTTER76 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I have to agree with Chris. Postman has not come near my door either. Looking forward to it anxiously.
Chris Liontas Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Anything new on this?? I had to put off ordering it due to about 900 other books I want Would really like to get this, but I want to know what real IC collectors think about the information. There is so much discussion of ICs over the past 10 years, I really want to know if this is the current information.
Chris Boonzaier Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 I think he has it covered up to but not including WW1 documents and the selection of examples of WW1 crosses is appetite wetting, but nowhere near complete... examples up to and including 1870 is nailed... as is history and text for 1914. I can really recommend this.
Streptile Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The book is totally indispensable as a technical and political history of the Iron Cross (Vol I), and fairly worthless as a collector's guide to variants and makers, etc. (Vol II). I wouldn't be without it, but it depends what you're looking for.
