Jock Auld Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 Guys, Bit of 'skip licking' today just a bit too late but rescued a few bits, this amongst them. It still has a few screws and washers in it as it was full of scrap. Anyone got any straps? Jock
Hoss Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Nice I was once told these containers had their origins in W1 a friend had one he claimed was Imperial, heavier made with thicker steel but I've never seen them in period photographs. Eric
Jock Auld Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 Eric, Got no idea! I have not seen many pictures of 'dinner time' from the Germans in the first war. Not the best system as everyone goes hungry if the bloke bringing it forward gets 'pegged'!? Jock
LarryT Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Jock, Don't know whether your food container is WW1 or WW2. Here is a photo of one from my ww2 photo collection. It is squarer than yours but alike in most of the other details. Cheers, Larry
Jock Auld Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 Larry, I am fairly happy it is second war as I have another more or less identicle but it is waffenamt marked. The only difference is the other has had a mod on it to add a small pipe that would have been some sort of overflow? I thought I had posted it here but it was on another forum. The other to watch out for is the DDR version which now have a bit of age to them. Jock
Jock Auld Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Larry, here are the pics sadly you can't see the waffensamt and I can't get to it right now as the doors to that cellar are blocked with boxes. It has it's liner though!
Paul R Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Was there some sort of insulation in the wall to keep the food warm, or was it just air between the walls?
Jock Auld Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 (edited) Paul, No idea, both have only an air gap now but who knows if and what what was used in the war? Sorry?? Jock Edited December 9, 2014 by Jock Auld
Chris Boonzaier Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Will ask a friend when he comes over to visit... he is really into kitchen stuff from the war as he is a cook
