    Hello Jock.

You are most likely aware of the following:

On occasion when the Knights Cross award was announced via tetegram and the formal handing out of the decoration was still some time away, the unit to which the recipient belonged would present a unit-made cross together with a award certificate. The rolled up paper in front of the recipient may very well be it. A celebration apparently takes place already.

BTW: a speedy notification nearly always took place, the risks to frontline personnel not to be alive otherwise, was well known.

    Thanks for showing this picture.

Please find attached a similiar case but with a KVK instead of a RK.

However, as the text tells us it is not as funny as your example:

Captain Otto Brauer (02.07.1893-25.12.1942) never wore the original as he shot himself in the very same (christmas) night.

    Bernhard,

I was not aware it was routinely done.

    Saxcob,

That is tragic, I wonder what was troubling him so much to take his own life?

    Jock :)

    Kris: Yes, no problem.

Jock: No idea. However, it might have something to do with memories which came up during christmas night...

I have never heard of this happening as well. It is great to learn new things. Sad story behind the officer who shot himself. I wonder what brought that on?
