dante Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Nice group of documents to Lt Hertel, Königlich Sächsischen Leib Grenadier regiment nr 100, although missing the EK citations and a picture (his WW2 Wehrpass must be out there), having all his medals confirmed is a nice touch, if anyone has any thoughts on signatures or other avenues of research please let me know,Questions, Why the late Prussian War Service Cross.....de-mobilisation? also why the late wound badge? and help with what companies he served with...Many thanks, Paul
Chris Boonzaier Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 Nice, they upgraded him to a Silver wound when the severity of wounds was taken into consideration as opposed only to the number of wounds.
Deruelle Posted May 14, 2015 Posted May 14, 2015 What a nice group ! Do you the date of his death ? Christophe
IR 134 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) The signature on 2nd and 3rd Document in your last post dated 6.8.1919 is Major Zanthier. I guess this is Major Hans Christian Heinrich Lätare von Z. (1875-1969), 1918 Commander IR 107 and St. Henry Winner. Before outbreak of war he was at Saxon General-Staff. Gruß Stefan Edited May 15, 2015 by IR 134
IR 134 Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Signature on Besitzzeugnis for Black wound badge is that of the Regiments-Kommandeur Major Georg Werner Johann von Watzdorf (1872-1955)
KIR Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 (edited) .... also why the late wound badge? ...„ 5. Sept. 1916 schwerverwundet durch Granat-Geschoss am Kopf, linke Auge, rechter Hinterkopf, rechte Brust, linker Unterarm, unter Verlust des linken Auges …“ Hi Paul.In 1916 he was badly wounded and he loss his left eye, perhaps therefore he received later the silver wounded badge? (for example: golden wounded badge for both eyes)But very nice docs! Best regards,Jens Edited May 15, 2015 by KIR
dante Posted May 15, 2015 Author Posted May 15, 2015 Thanks Jens, need to find a photo of him........!!!! few more documents
turtle Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Very interesting and impressive documents to a true frontline soldier, thanks for showing! He (most probably) got the Prussian War Service Cross for his service with a domestic reconnaissance / civil affairs unit. He was in touch with different civil authorities, political parties etc. and was highly regarded because of his excellent work (writing position papers etc).
