Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted December 22, 2023 Author Share Posted December 22, 2023 Contrammiraglio (Rear Admiral) Carlo de Angelis Charet de La Fremoire (number 3), the Italian Naval Attaché in Berlin, greets Kriegsmarine officers on board the Heavy Cruiser „Prinz Eugen“, 22 November 1942. The purpose of his visit was to return the bell of the Austro-Hungarian Battleship SMS „Tegetthoff“ on behalf of the Italian Government. The German Heavy Cruiser „Prinz Eugen“ was originally to be named after Wilhelm von Tegetthoff, the Austrian victor of the Battle of Lissa, though considerations over the possible insult to Italy, defeated by Tegetthoff at Lissa, led the Kriegsmarine to adopt Prinz Eugen as the ship's namesake. That's why, in reference to her originally planned name, the ship's bell from the Austro-Hungarian Battleship SMS „Tegetthoff“ was presented to the crew of the „Prinz Eugen“ on 22 November 1942 by Contrammiraglio de Angelis. The rest of the retinue includes: 1: Vizeadmiral Friedrich Götting, Coastal-Commander Eastern Baltic Sea, and at the same time Fortress-Commandant of Gotenhafen (01 September 1942-28 February 1943) 2: Retired Austro-Hungarian k.u.k. Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted January 4 Author Share Posted January 4 Konteradmiral Paul Wever photographed at his office desk, possibly on the occasion of his birthday (28 January 1942), given all the flowers visible in the photo. Wever was promoted to Konteradmiral on 01 September 1941 and to Vizeadmiral on 01 October 1943. He died from a heart attack (pressumably caused by a sunstroke) on 11 August 1944 in Aix en Provence, South France. This photo is very interesting because Wever is wearing all of his awards and decorations (including many foreign). See the close-up below for more information about these awards and decorations. Wever was promoted to Konteradmiral on 01 September 1941 and to Vizeadmiral on 01 October 1943. Kriegsmarine Admiral Posted February 16 Author Share Posted February 16 Konteradmiral Robert Schall-Emden (pointed by the red arrow), Admiral of the Sea-Command-Offices (08 March 1941-14 November 1944), inspecting Kriegsmarine recruits at the Military training ground of Beverloo Camp at Leopoldsburg, Belgium, date unknown. The Staff of the Admiral of the Sea-Command-Offices (Admiral der Seebefehlsstellen) was formed in March 1941. It was formed to oversee the remaining tasks of the Operation Sea Lion (Unternehmen Seelöwe), namely forming and equipping the Landungsflottillen. The Admiral of the Sea-Command-Offices was also the administrative superior of all Marinehafenabteilungen, Flottillenstammregimenter, Transportflottillen, Artillerieträgerflottillen and Landungsflottillen. The Admiral was subordinate to the Kommandierender Admiral Frankreich, then Marinegruppenkommando West. The staff quarters were in Souverain Moulin near Boulogne, Antwerp and then Heringsdorf. Army Corps (25 March 1941-10 May 1941) 2: Konteradmiral Hans Hubertus von Stosch, Naval-Commander „A“ (14 February 1941-20 April 1941) 3: Oberstleutnant i.G. Walter Botsch, Chief of the General Staff of the XXX. Army Corps (25 October 1940-01 June 1943) After the occupation of Greece, the Kriegsmarine had to take over the necessary sea transports and the securing of maritime traffic as well as coastal defence in the Aegean. For this purpose, the Staff of the Coastal Commander Nordfriesland was detached from its area of command and made available as Naval Commander „A“ for deployment in the Balkans in Plovdiv (also called Philippopel in German), Bulgaria on 14 February 1941. From here, the Staff took part in the German advance through Greece. On 21 April 1941, the office in Athens was then renamed to Naval Commander Greece. It had German and Italian units at its disposal in varying numbers.
