BlackcowboyBS Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 As he was the adjutant of Prince Albrecht of Prussia, who was the prince regent of Brunswick from 1885 on, he recieved the knights cross 1st class as major in the same year.
Deutschritter Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 Thank you, Blackcowboy, but there must be a mix-up. Wilhelm became Major 1890, I have a feeling, you either mean Klaus Gottfried Friedrich (1844–1933) or Heinrich Karl Adelbert (1845–1914). Both of his older brothers also made General der Infanterie. Btw: Hardly anything is known about the two brothers, if anyone knows anything, or may even provide a biography, I am sure, not only I would be happy and grateful.
David M Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Actually there is quite some info on wikipedia. Might give it a try
Deutschritter Posted May 18, 2021 Author Posted May 18, 2021 Thank you, David, I found Klaus von und zu Egloffstein and Heinrich von und zu Egloffstein, but hardly promotions and awards, just a rough summary of their careers. I would love to see what Kurt von Priesdorff wrote about them (are they even listed?), but I sadly do not have his books and cannot find them online to read.
David M Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 Well I am not entirely sure, but I think the sources mentioned should be able to give you the additional info you are looking for. Especially the Militairwochenblatt. There must be someone here who indexed the lot. Or partly. As SF is not listed as a source I am not sure they are in the series

You are right, he recieved the knights cross 1st class in 1895 as major, so it was a typo from my side. But there is just one Egloffstein who ever recieved the KC1 of the HdL of Brunswick and he was the adjutant from the prince regent Albrecht von Preußen.

Thank you, that clears things up, it must have been Wilhelm 1895!
Deutschritter Posted May 19, 2021 Author Posted May 19, 2021 Addition to his awards (WWI): Wiederholungsspange (1914) zum Eisernen Kreuz II. Klasse (1871) Eisernes Kreuz (1914), I. Klasse (see picture) Militärverdienstorden (Bayern), I. Klasse (BMV1) Schwerter zum Roten Adlerorden I. Klasse mit Eichenlaub (see picture)
