Commissioned into the 17th/21st Lancers in 1928, he served with them in Egypt and India from 1930 to 1939, before attending the Staff College in 1941. He commanded 2 Armoured Delivery Regiment during the Second World War in France post-D-Day, and was advanced Lieutenant-Colonel. After further service as Commanding Officer of the 17th/21st Lancers in Greece and Palestine from 1947 to 1948 (General Service Medal with clasp Palestine 1945-48), he joined the War Office in 1948, and was appointed Military Attaché in Stockholm in 1951, for which services he was awarded the Commander of the Order of the Sword in 1954. He retired in 1956. Sir Henry succeeded to the Baronetcy upon the death of his father on 22 September 1966, and in 1970 sold the family seat, Stargrove House near Newbury, to the singer and songwriter Mick Jagger, of the rock band the Rolling Stones (an apocryphal story has it that Jagger was high on LSD when he unwittingly bought the house). Sir Henry died on 4 February 1993, being succeeded to the Baronetcy by his only son. There MIGHT be a SMALL possibility to ID the owner, or at least narrow it down. I will hopefully get access to the roll over awarder civil defence medals for 1942 (it's hallmarked silver) within a few weeks. Then I need to get the list of Vasa medals for 1955 to cross-check against. There were only 240 silver medals awarded in 1942 so it might be possible to narrow it down....
JohanH Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Here is another un-ID:able minibar. Order of Wasa and two shooting medals. And a tiny miniatyre Wasa-Order. It´s only 8mm wide. Notice the tiny drops of white enamel in the crown... 2
JohanH Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Here are a few more miniatures. Unfortunately not identified, but should be possible. Except for the two piece bar, that one is definitly not ID:able. 2
JohanH Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Here is a very nice miniature ribbon to Major Philip Henrik Ludvig Bogislav von Schwerin. 1
JohanH Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Here is a nice little chain with Danish, Icelandic, Italian and a Swedish order. @larsb001 Do you belive this to be a Swedish or a Danish miniature-chain?
Great Dane Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Most likely a Danish recipient. The Dannebrog Silver Merit Cross was only rarely awarded to foreigners. 1
