FALvonKyffhausen Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 I found an Awaloff Cross second class of the German-West Russian Army / Freikorps and wanted to ask if anyone here knows if it is an original. Thank you in advance!
VtwinVince Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 It looks like one of the countless fakes showing up on fleabay these days.
bolewts58 Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 (edited) I agree with VtwinVince. Originals of these are extremely rare. Chances of finding an original are very slim. eBay and some dealer sites are flooded with fakes in different class of this decoration. I only know of a couple of advanced collectors who have originals. Here is one of the few known originals. Edited June 29, 2022 by bolewts58
ccj Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 What’s the history on this award? I’ve seen some on eBay but thought they were make believe

bolewts58 Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 (edited) This awards has been discussed before on several forums including this one. Russian Westarmee headquarters standard showing the design of the award. Here is the service cross for the Russian Westarmee from my collection on which the order was later based. bolewts58 Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 (edited) A genuine example of a very rare Avalov Cross 2nd Class awarded to Baltischer Kämpfer, Karl Zoller. This is part of a grouping recently acquired by a fellow collector. The fact that both sides are enameled and the swords are detailed on both sides and gilded shows the difference between the thread starter and a real high-quality 2nd class.
