    News just in…

Doesn’t appear that there are substantial “stocks” of military LSGC’s. Can only assume that the same is true for the emergency services.

However, the following might be of further interest?

To answer your third question, I can confirm that no information is held determining a policy for
when those qualifying personnel will attract award of the 'old' or 'new' style of medal.

To answer your fourth question, I can confirm that no information is held on the timeline for
procurement or issue of new LSGC medals at present.

To answer your fifth question, I can confirm that no Information is held as no designs have been
approved by His Majesty as yet.

Oxfordshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Marjorie Glasgow BEM, attended the prestigious event to present ‘Her Majesty, The Queen’s Long Service and Good Conduct’ medals to eleven firefighters, each for 20 years’ service.

The Queen’s medal title has been retained this year, even though King Charles III is the new monarch – this is due to the individuals achieving their 20 years’ service in the reign of Queen Elizabeth II and in line with the royal warrant.

As of 15:46 hours Thursday 4th May 2023….

“Options for the effigy of the King which will be used on official medals are still under consideration. As such we are not striking any medals which carry the effigy of the King at this time.”

The new Border Force LSGC was supposed to be, being awarded in the spring of 2023. This has now been delayed until early 2024, as the medals themselves won’t be available until the autumn of 2023. Medal was initially conceived early last year I believe. So assume the current delay is due to the change in effigy?  But whether there will in fact be both E11R and C111R versions of this medal remains to be seen.

If I were to hazard a guess. I would suggest that this delay, if due to the re design of this medal. Whether they intend to have a Queen's version or just go straight to King's,  would seem the sensible thing to given, that this is in reality, a total new and previously unissued medal.

That being said, the delay could also be due, to the fact that they, intend to produce all the previously issued medals first? To me this would seem the fairest way of doing things?

Always great to see Constables, being recognised for sterling work, several of them on this list 👍
But well done to everyone who has been honoured.
I just hope they get a wriggle on presenting them with there medals.
The New Years Honours recipients are still yet to be presented with theirs.
The most recent information (from May), was that no medals bearing the King’s effigy have been struck yet!

I was thinking that perhaps with the Nuclear Vets Medal being referred to as a “commemorative” medal, that it might differ from others? But with the unveiling of the Humanitarian Medal, and it having exactly the same effigy, it would appear not to be the case.

No additional information, is available with regards, to when we can expect to start seeing previously established medals, being the new effigy.

Will be interesting to see if all effigies are now the same, or whether there will be crowned and uncrowned versions as previously awarded…??

    • Awards with His Majesty The King’s image in use from the beginning of October.
    • The new designs are presented on almost 50 different awards.
    • Images bear the inscription Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

The images - known as effigies - will be used for almost 50 awards, including The King’s Gallantry Medal, the Royal Red Cross and a range of long service awards.

The new images will replace previous designs which featured an image of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The new designs feature six different depictions of The King along with the inscription CHARLES III DEI GRATIA REX FID DEF - meaning Charles the Third, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith.

Three of the images show The King wearing the uniforms of the Admiral of the Fleet (Royal Navy), Field Marshal (Army) and Marshal of the Royal Air Force (RAF). On these medals, The King faces left in order for His medal bar to be seen.

New Royal effigies are announced when a Monarch ascends to the throne and are used on official medals and awards forming part of the UK’s honours system.

Her Late Majesty’s effigy has continued to be in use for medals and awards which recognised service given during Her reign.
