Hauptmann Posted December 2, 2006 Posted December 2, 2006 Hi all,Here's an Order of Lenin. Again not one to fool anyone but again okay in a display when you can't afford the real one:[attachmentid=63208][attachmentid=63210]

meffert Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Sometimes fakes are the only way to go...unless you own a museum.
Ed_Haynes Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 I know, but now quality fakes are hard to find. However much I hate making Kapral and the other crooks rich (and shall certainly add the word copy and obliterate the serial number), I can't ever find FAKES for what I need to "dress" some uniforms!
Christophe Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 BTW, It seems that Capral has disappeared since a while... Their website is no more reachable... Does anyone know where they are ?Cheers.Ch.
Ed_Haynes Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 BTW, It seems that Capral has disappeared since a while... Their website is no more reachable... Christophe Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Thanks Ed,I have to say I am still impressed by the quality of these "copies". And, now they cover nearly every medal...Cheers.Ch.
meffert Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 It was an M45 parade tunic for Marshal Kiril Meretskov. A bit moth eaten but that's the only way I could afford it. Have the hat, too, which is a beaut. A lower row of medals, all genuine for a change, will be joining it as soon as a victory over japan medal comes in. Still hunting down some good copies of suvorov 1st classes to put on the left and a norwegian St. Olav for the lower loops. Then I get to start saving pennies for a proper marshal star...and consider getting the moth damage repaired.Just joined your forum. Some interesting discussions.By the way, I tried to convince my wife that the smart thing to do would be to invest in some real order of lenins (I have two...only would need two more) to make a proper upper bar. Got vetoed in a big way.
bifter Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 The best lenin fakes are from 'The Regalia Specialist'.He can be reached via Militaria Mart. He does stunning Nazi fakes too. Good prices & VERY good quality; some are frightening though & could fool the unsuspecting.
Hauptmann Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Here's a cased example. I believe made by a U.S. company years ago. Does anyone have any other info on these? Case definitely a fantasy but they've always looked nicely made and nice to display the Lenin in.
Hauptmann Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Some more pics of this I found along the way, cannot remember where but if anyone has any objections to me posting them here I'll be happy to remove them. Dan
Mathomhaus Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Back in the 70s or maybe even into the 80s, cased "Lenins" like the one you've shown here sold readily at gun shows in the NE USA for $800 each. "Back in the day," noone had a clue what a proper Soviet medal box was supposed to look like. And the fact that the recess for the pendant doesn't quite fit right (at least on the one I own) apparently didn't set off anybody's alarms either. BTW: I acquired mine from a friend whose immediate response to discovering that he owned a fake was always to quite literally throw the offending item away. Once or twice, it was my good luck to be standing between him and the nearest trash can when he did that!) The obverse certainly matched any reference photo that was available at the time and absolutely no one had any idea what the back of an Order of Lenin was supposed to look like. Frankly, the pendant's overall appearance has held up quite well over the years and even now, if separated from its stupid case, could probably still present problems for begining collectors. If mounted next to a Red Banner that has "gone dark," many collectors might not immediately question the fake Lenin's "gold" finish. I suspect that most of the dealers who sold these must have known that they were fakes since it was not uncommon to see that anyone selling one frequently had others tucked away under his table.
